   Valentine's Day was awesome at Shift! It is one of our favorite restaurants and it was over the top that night! Everything is house made and we always leave saying how good it was. Valentine's Day was a Duck ham starter. We then had chef em's spaghetti and meatball. Delicious!! Next was chef joe's herb roasted pork loin on a butternut smear with homemade apple sauce. Dessert was delicious, chef Dara's chocolate cake filled with beet ganache and little meringues. Love sitting at the chef's bar!!

   We especially chose this restaurant to celebrate a special birthday, and once again, everything from the sweet potatoes, the mussels/chorizo, the shrimp pappardelle, the short ribs, the brassica salad, the flourless chocolate cake and the canolli (sp?) were exceptional!! The wait staff made our friend feel like a king - we absolutely love this restaurant!!!

   Shift is an absolute must eat in Flagstaff. The culinary works of Joe and Dara are incredible. Do yourself a favor and eat here. The menu changes weekly, and it is never disappointing.

   Flagstaff has come up in the world! Shift is warm and welcoming to the average person looking for lunch or dinner, and enticing for foodies or wanna-be foodies like me. It's a place to share small plates. First we ordered cocktails, which are unusual and interesting looking, and are probably good, but we had a little trouble because I wanted to modify mine to be less sweet. My fault, I've learned now to just order the drink exactly as I like it and not put the pressure on the server and bartender. My dining companion had a very nice cocktail off the menu. We ordered the sourdough bread with the butter of the week, pickled sweet potato french fries, and tomato soup with grilled cheese. All were delicious - although I didn't care for the rind in the Meyer lemon butter that came with the sourdough bread. I am sorry to even tell you how amazing the tomato soup with "grilled cheese" was, because it looks like they have already changed the menu and it's not on the this week's version. The presentation was beautiful also, with the open faced grilled cheese in the soup bowl and the tomato soup poured around it. Everything melted in my mouth. If I lived in Flagstaff, I would probably eat at Shift once a week, so as not to miss any of their creations.

   At first we were a bit worried about the limited menu. The staff was great at recommendations. Our entire group loved the food! Great cocktails and wine as well! We will definitely go back! The Brussel Sprouts, French Fries and Beet Salad were my faves!!!!

   From the information about the evening New Year's Eve's seatings it gave me the impression that for a couple it was $70 total; not $70 person! Great tasting food with very good presentation. I wanted to complain right there as others at our table were shocked as well however I didn't want to disturb the even fun we were trying to have.

   Where to begin?? The special seven course meal for new Year's Eve was just that - truly special - AND each course quite simply built upon the other, making this meal a gastronomical delight!! The courses were lovingly prepared, visually splendid and delicious from start to finish. One would think that "small plates" would leave you wanting more, but we left, definitely wanting more of Shift, but totally satiated from the wonderful food, the great, attentive waitstaff, and the ambience of the entire meal/experience. We have decided that this must become our annual tradition.... the New Year's Eve meal at Shift!!!

   Really enjoyed the entire experience. The staff was welcoming and it was fun to see it all happening from the bar. From start to finish the food and wine was great. We felt that extra special treatment on our wedding anniversary. I would say go anytime you want something special or even when you just want good food. Great place and look forward to going back soon!
