About this restaurant

Schuler’s Restaurant & Pub in Marshall is about generations of reinventing pub style cuisine to provide the best experience possible. Since 1909 obtaining the freshest ingredients and crafting creative dishes has been the norm. One of the most recent changes at Schuler’s Restaurant & Pub is to include lighter fare, vegetarian options, gluten-free choices and small plates. What sets Schuler’s Restaurant & Pub separate from others is the in-house freshly baked breads, cakes, cookies, crackers and rolls. Each day bakers follow a schedule for making such specialty loaves as sourdough, Bavarian wheat, cinnamon raisin, honey oatmeal, cranberry walnut, rosemary garlic and Midwest grain. Visit to see how over 100 years of refining has resulted in food the entire family will love.

Took our new pastor and wife out for dinner. We had late reservations 8:15 PM on a Friday Night. We had a new waiter who didn't know how to open a wine bottle, left the soup dishes on the table until he was ready to serve the main course. then had to figure out how to make room for everything. He never refilled any of the drinks water or otherwise. About half way thru the soup he brought the bread and no butter or cheese. stated he had forgotten to bring the bread out. The pastor ordered Fried Chicken and the waiter came back to report that they were out of Chicken. What restaurant runs out of chicken on a Friday Night. The rest of us ordered steak and the prime rib. The prime rib was very lean and rare as I like it. The steaks were just as good. Pastor had prime rib after told there was no chicken and enjoyed it.

The ambiance in this historic restaurant is great, however the food and service are just ok. Our server didn't know the menu, didn't clear plates from one course to the next and several times throughout the evening, we had to ask for utensils.

Because of Marshall's location, Win Schuler's is frequently a destination when friends are getting together from different parts of the state, this past visit with some coming from Kalamazoo and the others coming from Ann Arbor. We had Sunday Brunch which is always a treat. First we do reconnaissance to see what's on the tables, and then we pace ourselves! I started with the appetizers and appreciated the smaller-size, divided metal plates so that I could try a half-dozen things in small portions and keep them cold or hot. The shrimp and the various savories really made this 'course.' Then I moved to a dinner plate and enjoyed a chicken dish, garlic potatoes, wonderful green beans, a slice of ham, and other good things. Finally, I took a tiny dessert plate and capped off the meal with a small piece of chocolate cake. A glass of wine and a wonderful cup of Schuler's coffee were nice accompaniments. You know, I saved my calories all week for this meal and it was worth every bite! The brunch crowd was in a great mood, the staff was so friendly and helpful, and the room - though full - was quiet enough for our table of friends to talk easily. See you again soon!

We went to Schuler's for our wedding anniversary because we were spending the weekend in Battle Creek/Kalamazoo area. The reviews highly recommended the prime rib. My husband ordered it and agreed it was good. I had the braised short ribs - very tender. Our son had the filet and said it was good also. Prices were reasonable and setting was cozy/interesting. The parking lot outside was full but once inside it did not appear to be that busy....I attribute this to the fact it has a large amount of seating. We went at 6:00 p.m. and there was not a list of people waiting, which is great! VERY PERSONABLE staff --- very attentive to guests needs. Our waiter, Cody, was very professional, gave good recommendations and came to our table at appropriate times. Very good experience.

I had the Prime Rib and it was by far the best I have EVER had. My wife and I eat out often and Prime Rib is not something I order very often. It usually comes with an over abundance of fat which I try to avoid. I heard yours was leaner than normal and it was!! I will be back for more.

We booked dinner at Schuler's for Saturday night during Marshall's home tour, but not without some concern about whether the restaurant's kitchen and waitstaff would be up to the large crowd of visitors expected for the tour. We were very pleased. Even though both the dining room and the pub were filled when we arrived, service was excellent for both drinks and dinner, and our four orders of whitefish were brought to the table hot and perfectly prepared as ordered. Since we live in the area and dine at Schuler's fairly often, and know that both the quality of service and food preparation can vary a bit from time to time, it's reassuring to have such a pleasant experience when staff and kitchen are really challenged.
