   The food was absolutely worth the wait! We made a reservation for 2 people at 7:30 and when we arrived, it didn’t seem too busy; there were a few open tables and no line at the door. We didn’t receive our drink order until almost 8 and the food by 8:20. When our food arrived, it was immediately worth the wait! We had the spicy linguini and the short rib pasta dishes, both were delicious. The short rib dish was a 10/10! If service was a little faster, this would have been a 5/5 for us. We’ll definitely be back

   Food was very good, though the vegetables on the side of my entree were fermented and not particularly great. My cocktail was ok (jalapeño Paloma) though a bit watery and not much of a jalapeño taste. Atmosphere was good and I was able to chat easily with friends without concern for noise.

   The new management has really done a great job with this restaurant...their staff is very amenable and knowledgeable.. the food was all great and white it was not busy, would have been worth the wait if it had been..a must visit when in Newport.

   We have been loyal customers of Shells and Scales for years. We didn’t know about the change of ownership until we asked for our favorite dishes. Although we had to pivot, the new menu was great. We shared the octopus appetizer which was delicious and well portioned. I had a daily special consisting of mussels and shrimp in an absolutely amazing tomato sauce over homemade pasta. My wife had the swordfish which she sad was very fresh and delicious. So it may be different from the past but we’ll definitely be back soon!

   We wanted to try Scales & Shells as we used to go to Metacom Kitchen when Richard was there. Always enjoyed that. A bit disappointed in Scales. Two of us had the salmon and asked that it be cooked through, just not rare. It was overdone and very dry. I know that Richard wasn't working that evening, so not sure if that had a bearing on the food. We live locally, and I always like to give a restaurant a second try, but it may be a while before we go back. Thank you.

    The food is excellent and the breadbox is delicious. Just be forewarned, it's not the old Scales & Shells we all grew up with. It's a much more upscale dining experience with the prices to match. The service is professional and curt, not warm and effusive like the old days. Also, the portions are enough and you will not be taking home a to-go box for lunch the next day. All in all, very good for a romantic date night out.
