About this restaurant

  • Romantic
  • Good for special occasions
  • Innovative
Nestled on the corner of Connecticut and Florida Avenues, this inspired Russian restaurant and lounge is evocatively reminiscent of the era of the Tsars. The Russian-European elegance of the Russia House offers a uniquely warm and comfortable meeting place for anyone appreciative of its friendly and intimate coziness. It is the perfect meeting place for the true Washington socialite. The Russian-infused intercontinental cuisine pleases the most refined palate with such nouveau-traditional entrees as the Beef Stroganoff and the Chicken Kiev. Further true to tradition, the Russia House features an impressive selection of caviars and one of the largest vodka collections in Washington, D.C.

I love Russia and it was like walking into Russia. Friendly, cosy. And I liked the Vysotski music! But the food was a disappointment. May wife and concluded we could have done better at home.

Food was excellent. Tables were crowded together and the decor was dated and a little tired.

A limited menu means everything is delicious. I got to try the chicken Kiev and beef stroganoff. The beef was the best dish of that I've ever had. Cocktails were terrific. The table was tiny for the two of us fat Americans. Service was fast and it was a unique atmosphere. Definitely make a reservation if you're planning on going. And if you're drinking expect a large, but well worth it tab

We went here for Valentine's Day. Overall, the service was really bad. We waited an hour past our reservation time, some of our dishes were cold, and we never got the amuse bouche that was included in the $65 pre-fixe, despite asking our server for it. Not the biggest deal, but it was frustrating given the high cost of dinner. Most of the food was really good, the cocktails came out super fast, and it had a nice ambience. I think it was just an off day and they might have been understaffed. I would go back and I would recommend this place, but I wouldn't recommend going on a high volume holiday.

Good food, but I had to wait 45min for my table to be ready. Although they were operating way behind schedule, I thought the food was worth it and they provided complimentary glasses of champagne while waiting.

We went for Valentine's Day dinner because it used to be a cozy and somewhat romantic place last time we were there a few years ago. It seemed that they way overbooked for the prefix dinner they were serving (which they did not mention when I asked about a "special" dinner for the holiday). They shrunk the size of the restaurant area which is a pity, it used to be a nice place. Now the tables are way too close together to call the place romantic. The tables are also right on top of the entry door so you get a blast of cold air when people enter or leave. In the end we had a very well prepared appetizer, however the server forgot to put in our dinner order and after an hour wait we left. We will not be returning.

I would have given 5 stars overall, except for the lack of a true waiting area. The restaurant is downstairs now and very crowded. What was previously the restaurant upstairs is now converted to a little hotel. Food and service is excellent. The owners are nothing but First rate and First class. Will definitely go back again.

Great place. Too cramped. Good food. Expensive. It was worth a lot but I'm not sure it was worth quite as much as we paid. However it was a special occasion and I don't regret it.
