Rider in Seattle offers a delightful dining experience with "excellent food" and "great customer service." The restaurant's ambiance is charming, perfect for pre-theater dining, and features an eclectic menu. Brenda, a standout server, receives consistent praise for her attentive service. However, be aware of the 20% automatic gratuity.

The food and atmosphere were good, and the service during our meal was pleasant. However, I left the restaurant feeling quite disappointed and uncomfortable. For a party of just two people, a 20% service charge was added to our bill without any clear explanation or notice from the staff. This felt misleading, as we were not informed, and I ended up unknowingly adding an additional $88.03 in tip. Since realizing this, I have tried to contact the restaurant multiple times — phone calls go unanswered with a full voicemail box, and my email and OpenTable messages have not been returned. I find it unacceptable for a restaurant of this level to charge a large, automatic gratuity without informing the customer and then provide no response when there’s a legitimate issue. I sincerely hope management will take this seriously and respond soon.

I had read the trout was flavorless and I would agree. Even some salt and pepper would have helped. I would never order that again but the scallops were great fresh and flavorful. Carrots hard no one liked them. Parmesan fries yummy but Caesar salad bland again with no flavor. With so many other great places to go likely will not be back except for maybe their clam chowder which was super good. The automatic gratuity is a turn off too but our waitress was worth it so that would not cause me to change my mind about returning if the had been uniformly better especially for price point.

We had the seafood plateau, the agnolotti, rigatoncini, and the hamachi. The agnolotti was undercooked but, the sauce was so delicious that we ate it all. Our servers were awesome.

I had the steak frites. The steak itself was very tendon-y. Not my favorite but the fries were good. Maybe I just got a bad cut? My wife had the burger and she liked it.

Ambiance was aesthetically pleasing initially we were drawn into the huge wood fire grill (where I watched them cook my fish) the unfortunate part was we left smelling of wood smoke, not a huge deal honestly except we then packed ourselves into a venue for a show. I could smell it and I would assume others could as well, just something to be aware of and perhaps request seating in the upper portion of the restaurant instead of the wood fire area if you are attending an event afterward. The room didn’t appear “smoky” at all and we didn’t notice a smoky environment for breathing but I (and my partner) smelt of it nonetheless. The food: I had the trout. I absolutely love trout and have had it countless times. My trout was the entire size of my plate and perfectly cooked however mostly tasteless. I have never had farm trout and it may account for the taste but I’ve always known trout to have a, stronger than most, fish taste (which I like). This trout had very milky white meat and very, very mild fish taste (not what I am used too). Now for those who appreciate a mild fish this would be ideal but it wasn’t for me personally. I will reiterate it was perfectly cooked! My partner had the filet mignon, also perfectly cooked. It was delicious and a generous size. I ordered carrots instead of potatoes that come with the fish. Nicely cooked and I loved the hazelnut topping but desperately needed a hit of salt and were placed on what appeared to be purée but tasted of straight sour cream. The potatoes that came with the steak were great and perfectly seasoned, had a slight smash to some which gave them a nice crisp edge. I appreciate reviews and hope this may shed some light that helps someone have a great experience.
