About this restaurant

  • Good for special occasions
  • Charming
  • Good for business meals
At Rec Pier Chop House, Chef Andrew Carmellini brings his soulful, urban Italian cooking to an American landmark by specializing in prime steaks and chops. The menu features locally-sourced ingredients, sustainable seafood, farm-raised organic poultry, and some of the country’s best beef from James River, Virginia and Donnely Ranch, Nebraska along with the irresistible pastas that Carmellini is best known for. This Italian chophouse combines the flavor and feeling of a countryside rosticceria with a modern-day steakhouse experience in Baltimore’s Fell’s Point.

Service was very slow even though at 7pm on a Saturday I’d guess no more than 20% of the tables were occupied. After ordering extra anchovies on a Caesar salad, it came with none because they were out of anchovies. Had I been told this I would have ordered a different salad. It was difficult to get pepper for our salads. My $70 NY strip was a thin $20 cut. A drink ordered half way through the dinner was never served. The food and service sadly do not match the lovely ambiance of the Rec Pier Chop House. Now we know why business was so slow on a Saturday Spring evening.

Great food and service. They were attentive to my gluten allergy. Loved listening to the singer/pianist

Upscale atmosphere with sub par service made for a poor overall experience with a high price tag. I’m sure service is normally better here but this night it was bad. Service affected the atmosphere, the way food was prepared and overall dining experience.

My third time here and they did not disappoint! Was celebrating my anniversary and when the hostess realized that, she offered us a better table! The waitress and staff acknowledged our special day and made sure we were accommodated the entire time! The food and drinks are always satisfactory so that was a given! Thank you all!

I’m assuming that the Rec Pier Chop House is having issues with staffing levels. While the food was excellent, there were some unusual lapses with the service. My wife and I arrived about 8 minutes prior to our reservation time and the hostess asked us to wait in the lounge instead of seating us (the restaurant was about 40% full at that time). 10 minutes AFTER our reservation time, I circled back to the hostess and asked to be seated. She accommodated the request, but didn’t seem to think about seating us if I did not ask. Once seated, the waitress was pleasant and knowledgeable. The manager stopped by the table a couple of time to help fill water glasses and offer assistance to the wait staff. There were usually long gaps between visits by the waitress to take appetizer orders, entre orders, intermediate check ins, dessert orders and the dreaded long wait period to return with the final bill to sign after paying via credit card. I’m also still unsure if we were scammed by the valet. Is validated parking for the restaurant really $20? The valet said it was $45 without validation and $20 with validation. I still tipped the valet on top of the fee, but I would suggest posting signage outside to spell out the valet charge for restaurant patrons.

Ok well it started off that we had reservations @ 8:45 were pointed to another area to sit for approx an hour to be seated at 9:50. The roses that I paid $140.00 for were not at the table waiting. Then some of the pre fix items on the menu were not available ( I couldn’t even get a salad ). Then when I pointed out that I had purchased the flower package for valentine’s day the waiter brought flowers that like they were purchased from Safeway. Which are already dead. To some this experience up I’ve been here before and the experience was much better. To say the lease we were very disappointed this time
