About this restaurant

  • Charming
  • Great for creative cocktails
  • Great for brunch
In 2024, the original location of Petit Trois, on Highland Ave in Hollywood, celebrates 10 years as a beloved, can't miss part of LA's dining scene. Chef/Owner Ludo Lefebvre puts his spin on classic French flavors including the cult-favorite Big Mec burger, swimming in rich Bordelaise sauce, perfectly roasted Heritage chicken with compressed potatoes fried in clarified butter, a French Dip sandwich served with a version of the restaurant's onion soup for dipping, and lots more. Start with the restaurant's housemade baguette served with the creamiest French butter and pair it all with wine from the restaurant's thoughtfully curated list, which includes 16 by the glass options. With a design inspired by classic Parisian bistros, Petit Trois transports guests in its 2 dining areas as well as an outdoor patio. The dining room is also available for private events.

Why they're an Icon

Executive chef: Ludo Lefebvre

From the OpenTable editors: Acclaimed chef Ludo Lefebvre is still turning out some of the best French food in the city at his award-winning postage stamp-sized bistro in Hollywood open since 2014. Sit shoulder-to-shoulder at the cozy marble bar to sample Lefebvre’s simple but masterfully prepared dishes, like steak tartare, escargots drowned in butter, and a perfectly prepared omelet that puts most others to shame.

Really sad, I used to think of Petit Trois as an institution of French food. Now it’s basically meh, so many other good restaurants beat them at good French cuisine.

After booking a regular table we were bumped to the chef’s counter. Then spent $230 for one aperitif, one appetizer and one entree meant for two. I have enjoyed Petit Trois Le Valley for years and hoped that L’Original would have been at least as good an experience. Instead, my date and I felt like second class citizens. Very disappointing.

Quality of the food is absolutely on point. By French And and Sue was fantastic, and not overly salted. My wife’s steak Frites were excellent. My wife’s chocolate soufflé was sublime, as was my bread putting. I may have probably the best old-fashioned cocktail that I’ve ever had. It’s definitely an expensive that out, but it’s worth.

The best French and filet au poivre in LA. For this kitchen, consistency is king. The wine selection is impressive, but approachable. Fine dining without pretension. The entire team is attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable. Perfect for date night, friendly catch up or weekly solo dinner, as it’s become for me. Don’t wait for a special occasion.

I had high hopes for Petit Trois. I reserved in advance and even called a few hours prior to confirm we’d be seated at a table—not the bar. I was assured it wouldn’t be an issue. That assurance clearly meant nothing. Upon arrival, the host greeted us with a cold, dismissive attitude and insisted on seating us at the bar. I politely explained that I had called ahead, but she didn’t care. No apology. No effort. Just pure entitlement. I asked to speak with a manager. Enter Terry. After making us wait a good 10 minutes—this is a small restaurant—she finally appeared, exuding the same arrogant energy. Instead of addressing the issue professionally, she acted like she was doing us a favor just by showing up. She talked in circles, made excuses, and rudely demanded I show her proof of the phone call—as if I were lying about the whole thing. The smugness and lack of basic hospitality were jaw-dropping. After going back and forth for another 10–15 minutes, we gave up and stayed at the bar with a view of the kitchen—not exactly the ambiance I had in mind. Fortunately, our server Jake was a bright spot. He was warm, attentive, and genuinely tried to make the best of an awkward situation. Thank you, Jake. We started with French onion soup, escargot, and an old fashioned. The cocktail was the highlight of the evening—beautifully crafted with a subtle coconut-infused whiskey that was truly special. But the night took another dip when we asked to speak with Terry again—this time after spotting several empty tables. Once again, she showed up late and carried herself with the same cold, condescending attitude. After another round of excuses, she finally moved us, acting as if she was granting us a royal favor. For our mains, we ordered the steak and the Big Mec. The steak was dry, lukewarm, and drowning in black pepper. The burger was a greasy mess—no balance, no finesse, no redeeming quality. To sum it up: the food was forgettable, the service (thanks to Jake and the bartend

Very impressed by the variety and quality of food and service. The chef is extraordinary. Very well-chosen wines. Salad and mussels rival anything I have had in France. Chocolate soufflé is an art form of its own.
