Thirty years ago, Opart and his wife, Mookda decided to take a leap of faith by opening the original Opart Thai House on Western Avenue. There weren't many Thai restaurants in Chicago at the time but they were passionate about their food. Opart and Mookda sold everything they had to buy a small retail spot on Western Avenue. They decided to name it Opart Thai House because they wanted every customer to feel like they were eating at their house. The goal was and still is to treat every guest like family; serving authentic Thai food in a warm and friendly environment.

We chose Opart Thai because it's not too far from the United Center. We had an early reservation (4:30pm), and only one other table was occupied at that time. The staff were very friendly and attentive. The food was good, and good-sized portions. There wasn't really anything unique about the food or the environment, but it worked well for us.

We went to Opart Thai for a pre-theatre dinner, as the venue was only about 5 minutes away on West Chicago Avenue. It proved to be an excellent choice for our first time dining in this specific area of the city. We were greeted in a friendly manner, and our server was extremely helpful. We were going to order the appetizer sampler platter, and she gently directed us to a couple of other items on the menu that were not the usual Thai-restaurant staples. For our entrees we had two orders of Pad Thai and one curry dish, and one other that I can't remember - they were all delicious and required take-home boxes. The dessert of Thai custard was also excellent, as was the Thai iced tea. They have full bar service - I got the sense this was a relatively recent development - and pre-meal cocktails were very creative and good. The only quasi complaint is that the windows at the front of the dining room were open due to the warm weather, and the street noise from Chicago Avenue was very loud on occasion.

A little quiet at lunch time but that’s not a complaint. The food was fantastic. Maybe too much red curry. But that too is not a complaint.

A couple of friends and I were in town for a small conference and were looking for a good place to eat where we could have quiet conversation. We chose Opart Thai on the basis of on-line reviews and were not disappointed. It is a beautifully designed space, the food was excellent, the service was attentive without being intrusive, and it was a great place to chat and unwind after several days of work over a long weekend.

The Shumai appetizer was excellent but found the Chiken Pad Thai somewhat bland. The Beef Fried Rice was OK but would order it spicier next time.
