Quite disappointed with the omakase experience. The bar side seats were next to the kitchen which provided lots of noise of dishes clanging. Honestly felt like we had the worst seat in the house. Overall the ambiance did not feel like a high end restaurant which was disappointing on our anniversary. We had a lunch at Craft earlier we were surprised to find a card on the table wishing us a happy anniversary as they noticed it on Open table. It was not even acknowledged at Nupo, even after sharing why we were there. They did however take care of a drink as there was shell in my one oyster which was nice. Otherwise, truly did not feel like a special “experience” but just a regular meal sat at the bar. The chef did not interact with us outside of dropping the food in front of us with a quick romance. The food was good but not worth the price with veryyyy small portions, leaving us hungry after a $500+ bill. We definitely wish we just sat at a table and ordered a la carte. The highlight of the meal was our server who did a great job and recommended great drinks.

Being our first time, we decided to keep it simple and went with the tasting menu and the pairing of various sakes. We were not disappointed! Each course was stunning and presented beautifully and the combination of ingredients made for some amazingly tasting dishes. The whole experience made for a great night. It's not cheap but I wouldn't say it's overpriced. Pretty good value for what you get overall. I will definitely be back.

Nupo is such a fantastic place. Great food, service and ambience. The menu changes, keeping things interesting and fresh. Every dish is so carefully thought and delicious. Everything we ate was delicious. Service is fantastic. Server explained how things work, gave us suggestions, guided us, food kept coming and wonderfully explained every dish. Would certainly keep coming back.

We visited NUPO for our wedding anniversary and opted for the Omakase experience, excited to enjoy sushi after a long time. Unfortunately, the experience was quite disappointing. The first appetizer was good, but from the second course onward, the chef’s creativity seemed to overshadow the ingredients. The Chinese butter in the oyster dish overpowered its natural flavor, and the hollandaise sauce in the chawanmushi masked the taste of the egg entirely. The negitoro was wrapped in a thick Japanese snack, which overwhelmed the tuna rather than complementing it. The tempura was overly sweet, throwing off the balance of flavors. When the nigiri was served, the fish portions were small, and the rice felt overcooked. Out of ten pieces, only two had a good balance of flavors. For a meal that cost over $400 for two people—over $500 with drinks—the quality simply wasn’t there, nor did it feel authentic. Having experienced many omakase meals in Japan and Toronto, I can confidently say that this is not the place to visit if you’re looking for an authentic experience. Since we’re new to Calgary, I’m not sure if this is considered one of the better options in the city, but based on our visit, it fell far short of expectations.
