   I was not impressed by Noz Market! I expected a bit more for $300 a pop.

   Unfortunately it’s going downhill. The chefs have changed from Japanese to Chinese. The sushi is now just average, not the high quality it used to be for years Noz Market. Its upmarket older sibling next door, Sushi Noz, is still fantastic, one of the top in the city, and Noz Market used to be a more casual, less expensive sibling. Now the relationship seems to have been severed. Truly hope something can be done about that. A fan.

   I did NOT like the service, although the food was good. I booked omakase for me and my friend a week ahead. When we got there they would only sit us in a corner at the bar against the wall. My friend was older and was not comfortable with the tall chair against the wall and asked to be seated elsewhere. It was 6:30pm there was only one customer at the bar. They wouldn’t sit us anywhere else and saying it is all booked. After we finished in about 2 hours there was barely anyone showed up, and the rest of the seats weren’t for a large group. It was bizarre to me. I felt being mistreated. My friend deeply felt that we were being discriminated against.

   This is my top choice for great birthday dinner! The rice has warmth while the fish is the best of its kind. Always stellar experience.

   Great UES sushi, consistently good, and lovely ambience. Much better than your average run of the mill sushi.

   Noz Market headed by Chef Eli is a wonderful experience. If you are looking for an authentic and traditional Japanese experience, this is the place to go. You can expect a wide range of delicious seasonal pieces combined with the staples everyone knows and loves (tuna, salmon, scallops, uni). In terms of price, Noz Market definitely isn’t cheap, but it’s worth it as everything you eat has never been frozen. Every fish was caught and shipped from Japan in the last 24 hours. I recommend doing the chef’s omakase; you will be full by the end of the service.
