   It was a busy night on Valentines weekend and they were totally under staffed. We love Nicky’s and have been going for years for the amazing food. It has recently been purchased by a new owner who is said he plans to change the menu etc. We are hoping that the negative experience we had was not an example of things to come with this Estes staple

   Poor Nicky's was overwhelmed on Valentine's weekend; the servers tried their best but kitchen was just so backed up, had to wait about an hour for our food. We did get comped some drinks for our wait, owners are very nice and accommodating but the place was just not ready for the big crowd. To their credit, I have been coming to Estes every President's Day weekend for 20 years and have never seen so many people around town, seemed like twice the normal amount. My filet was cooked perfectly as were most of the dishes at our table. Trout was a little dry. Ambiance is great with piano and fireplace. We will return like we always do.

   I wish I had paid attention to the previous reviews. We were seated promptly at our reservation room... and that was the highlight of the evening. The waiter was less than thrilled at doing his job, was seldom around, while excess wait staff appeared to be performing their duties with enthusiasm. The soup and salad were prompt after the order but the the meal lagged way to long after. When it arrived we were advised that the steak serving plates were extremely hot. Unfortunately the both meals were less than an acceptable serving temperature. The butter on my potato actually did not melt. I asked for a new one and the replacement lacked temperature. At this point we finished our meal. We were never asked how our meal was, if we enjoyed ourselves, not even a thank you. I would not recommend this restaurant as an acceptable steak house in Estes Park.

   We have been to nicky's several times however, this time was underwhelming. The duck was way overcooked and my bride had the walley, it was full of bones. I know when ordering fish there is always a chance of a stray bone but, not every bite. Unacceptable! The wait staff as always, was incredible.

   Server was absolutely awful. Food took over 45 min to get to us. I Got the prime rib that came out cold. I took my dad here from out of town for a nice dinner and was very embarrassed and disappointed.

   Our experience at Nicky's Steakhouse was perfect. We were seated by the fireplace, as we requested. A talented pianist played nearby. The ambiance was romantic, especially for Valentine's Day Eve, the food was wonderful, and the service was exceptional. The evening could not have been better!

    The buffet was set up in such a way that each time we went up for the next course, we always had to wait in a line and also had to move to let people through who were being seated.
