Why they're an Icon

Executive chef: Melissa Miranda

From the OpenTable editors: Food & Wine Best New Chef Melissa Miranda is leading a new generation of Filipino food at Musang, serving up innovative takes on her childhood favorites. That means dishes like a Filipino bent to Caesar salad, mushroom sisig, and rich short rib kare kare, all of which led to several nominations for James Beard Awards. Locals love the cozy dining room inside the craftsman-style purple house, which spills out into a brick-lined back patio.

Food overall was great. The pancit was a bit over-seasoned with salt. Melissa'a staff was first rate. Our guest's first-time there and made it clear they would return!

I had dinner at Musang with 3 friends. We sat in the outdoor patio, which was very comfortable. We ordered 2 small dishes, 2 larger dishes and a vegetable, plus 2 desserts, and we were completely satisfied. We started with lumpiang sariwa and pancit. The lumpia was delicious, the sauce perfect to my taste and the roasted garlic on top gave a great touch to each bite. The pancit was delicious but was a bit too salty. I didn't mind because I tend to like my food salty. The short ribs kare-kare was excellent. The flavor was delicious with enough peanut flavor but not overwhelming. The meat was melt-in-your-mouth tender and it had enough vegetables, but I could have had more of the vegetables. The chicken joy was perfectly executed -- light breading on the outside gave each piece a nice crunch and kept the meat tasty, moist and tender --and fried to perfection. We also ordered asparagus laing, rather strange expecting leafy vegetables in this dish cooked in coconut milk, but again it was wonderful, with the asparagus cooked perfectly -- crunchy and tasty with the spicy coconut milk completing the flavor. Finally we had an order of tiramisu and mango sans-rival -- both really delicious and satisfying, not too sweet or overwhelmed with cream and butter. We thought that, with all that food and the imposed 22% service charge, the total of about $70 per person was definitely not bad. My only complaint is the noise level when the outdoor space was full.

Wonderful food & service. A gem on Beacon Hill! Gin Bulag, very tasty, complex cocktail. Lumpiang Sariwa & Kinlaw Na Hamachi were delightful starters. The Kare Kare Short Rib was recommended & with good reason. The Mango Float Sansrival was a perfect finish. Maddy & the rest of the team provided terrific service. Kudos to the kitchen too!

Musang in Seattle absolutely delivers. We ordered the Fried Chicken Joy, Lumpiang Shanghai, Garlic Rice, and the Kare Kare Short Rib, and every dish was phenomenal. The fried chicken was perfectly crispy and juicy, the lumpia packed rich, savory flavor, and the garlic rice was the ideal comforting side. The standout was the kare kare tender short rib in a beautifully nutty, savory sauce that felt both hearty and refined. Musang nails elevated Filipino comfort food, warm, soulful, and unforgettable.

Excellent ambience, delicious food, and great service. Only issue is that for the price, our choice of dessert needed to be better presented than a slice of cake in a bowl.

Wow. Any chefs that can make vegetables the star of the meal has my adoration. Everything we had was perfectly executed and amazing. It’s so rare that you go to eat someplace and know 1000% that you could not have done better at home and that it was worth every penny. I love that the menu changes seasonally and will be coming back every season to see what’s new .
