Keith McNally brings Minetta Tavern to Washington DC

MINETTA TAVERN ORIGINALLY OPENED IN 1937
Named after the Minetta Brook — which ran southwest from 23rd Street to the Hudson River — the Tavern was frequented by various layabouts and hangers-on including Ernest Hemingway, Ezra Pound, Eugene O'Neill, E. E. Cummings, Dylan Thomas, and Joe Gould, as well as by various writers, poets, and pugilists.

Since its renovation, Minetta Tavern has best been described as "Parisian steakhouse meets classic New York City tavern."

We hope — and believe — that's a somewhat accurate description of the place.

Cool location. Hip/trendy decor. Lovely hostess. Very good server. Bread/butter excellent. Wine was very overpriced and a weak poor. I'd rather Cavit at $10 a glass, then a $26 Pinot Noir. Soft Shell Crab entre was delish, as was the burger & fries. $150.00 for two entres, one glass of wine and one coke. I don't mind paying for a nice dinner, but this was a tad too pricey. P.s. I was told that you don't serve Lasagne. Why?

Too loud to hear the server who was constantly upselling us so we ended up spending more money than we needed to and had far too much food.

Food was outstanding!! Service was occasionally a bit lacking --- it was a challenge to get a refill on water, or another cocktail (!!!). On the whole, a fun and enjoyable night!

The noise was too loud to speak and hear at a table for 5. Water was hard to get ahold of and the food was good for appetizers but the main courses were sub par. I’d sit at the bar with one other person next time but for a nice dinner this isn’t the spot

Loved the ambiance of the restaurant and the service was great. We both ordered the steak frites and were not impressed, the steak lacked flavor. We also felt rushed, one of the wait staff was taking the bread and butter away while my daughter was still eating it.

I felt like we were taken to a different place and time, except for all the other diners. The staff was fantastically professional. I love impeccable service from the second you step in to everything in between.

We chose Minetta for my BD dinner and loved it! Started upstairs at Lucy Mercer Lounge for cocktails. Quieter atmosphere w/cool vibe, signature martinis suggested by great bartender, Crystal. Sat at bar next to 2 gents who were also celebrating a BD -- FUN! Dinner downstairs in livelier energy. Great food (coq au vin, duck). Superb, friendly waitstaff. Comfortable speakeasy feel. Pricey, but it's DC. We'll happily return when we visit the city again!!
