About this restaurant

Merchant's Café, in the Pioneer Square neighborhood of downtown Seattle, was built in 1890 and reestablished in 2011. The Merchant's Café has been in continuous operation even since, making it Seattle's oldest restaurant. Merchants is dedicated to supplying local wines, spirits, craft beers, ales, lagers and non-alcoholic beverages from the Pacific Northwest. We are committed to using fresh and organic food from local purveyors such as Pike Place Market and Bob's Fruit Stand in Snohomish, WA. Merchant's Café & Saloon is open 7 days a week. We are open for all game day events, unfortunately we do not accept reservations on game days, but please stop in and grab a table.

One of the oldest restaurants in Seattle. Beautiful inside and the food is good. Staff/service was excellent. We'll be going back.

The place had a cool old feel. Service was awful and food wasn't so hot either. Although we had reservations, no one greeted us at the door and after about five minutes, we sat ourselves. The place only had about 1/3 of its tables full, so not sure what the problem was. Two tables came in after us and were served drinks and orders taken before anyone even greeted us. Still, the server was nice, even if everything from drinks to refills to food took forever. The sandwiches (cheeseburger & salmon 'burger.') was dried out and not very tasty, but good fries! The restaurant is pretty neat looking, but there was no heat! I was literally shaking for half the time. Brrr!

This was a great place to go for food and drinks in Pioneer Square. My boyfriend and I went here before going to a comedy show at the Comedy Underground just a block over. I can definitely see us coming back here again - for the area, the beer was relatively cheap! ($4 a pint) We sat at the bar and they were having problems with the cash register - the bartender was obviously frustrated, and yet still managed to pay attention to the customers at the bar while trying to fix the problem - kudos!

We chose the Merchant Cafe to celebrate my friend's birthday lunch because she wanted to go to Pioneer Square to experience the nostalgia of old Seattle. It was the perfect spot! The owner was our server and she treated us like royalty. She made recommendations for our meal that were right on target. The cheese curd appetizers were out of this world. The grilled cheese sandwich was also amazing, she added tomato and basil using her Mom's old recipe, it was fantastic! She even brought my friend a free tee shirt as a birthday gift. Oh, and the Mojitos! She made the best I've ever had. Ask her to share her secret recipe, she will! Ask about Otto, the spirit that inhabits the Merchant. Apparently he has a temper, and a sense of humor.
