BYOB
The ancient Romans used the name Mare Nostrum, an expression which means "Our Sea", to describe the Mediterranean Sea. So, taking inspiration from around the Mediterranean, we decided to bring you our favorite food. All the dishes on our menu are prepared with special care and respect to their origins. Using fresh local produce and meats, paired with fine quality ingredients, and prepared on-site daily, the food really speaks for itself.

Our restaurant's interior was designed by Merter Akbay, who was inspired by the culture and the history of Bodrum (Halicarnassus or Petronium), a small village of fishermen and sponge divers on the coast of Aegean Sea. The artworks showcased on the walls of our restaurant were made by artists living in Bodrum. The oil painting of Bodrum Castle (Castle of St. Peter) is a gift from famous Turkish painter Levent Deparis.

Food was pretty good. Service was pretty slow but I think they were a bit overwhelmed with the volume of customers. It was byob which was fine cause it made dinner cheaper and there's a wine shop around the corner.

This a BYOB restaurant. A package store is about one block away. Mare Nostrum is located in gentrified Fells Point. The ambiance is average, somewhat noisy. The clientele were mostly millenials The overall food theme is Turkish with some greek additions. My companion and I ordered stuffed calamari as starter. Four whole body calamari stuffed with red and yellow peppers, very gently fried without breading or other coating. Original and outstanding and recommended. Also had the greek salad (typical, large and good). Companion had whole bronzini, fried crispy. Impressive presentation and very well prepared. Also ordered Kofte which are spicy lamb meatballs. You get eight well endowed meatballs. No dessert ordered. Service provided by Ana, a young Brazilian woman, was attentive and excellent. Value is excellent (total bill for two with 20% tip was about $118, good value we thought). We recommend this restaurant for a private riposte and the excellent dishes.

Such a hidden gem! This place is never crowded to my surprise! It is BYOB, but the foot is outstanding, I could spend hours here. The service has room for improvement but as long as your not in a hurry it's worth it.

Always a consistently fun evening. A vast, delicious, and varied menu; super food presentation; attentive service; pleasant ambience. (Clearly, one of the Turish owners is in the marble business!) And the "best wine list in town" (meaning NO wine list; you have to/get to bring your own bottles).

NOISIEST restaurant I have EVER tried to enjoy with friends. Food over priced and portions teeny. A $24 mezze platter was barely enough for one person. Each item was about tablespoon and very lackluster. Not much to recommend.

As always, superb food at highly reasonable prices. Not too spicy, and from our time in Turkey, very authentic. Waitstaff is always attentive, but sometimes small things are lost in translation. We never did get our piece of baklava to go.... But, we will be back. We take out of town business and personal guests here and have never been disappointed.

Mare Nostrum is a neighborhood favorite of ours. The food is always good, and usually quite varied and imaginative...generally Mediterranean with emphasis on Turkish. This night there was only one waiter, who may have also been the cook. The service was glacial, and we were one of only two tables there. The usual tray full of appetizers was missing. If the guy was really on his own, that is explained. The food was still good and the server was polite and friendly. It was Halloween night, so they may have been short staffed. We will still go back to enjoy the food. note: You do have to bring your own wine

The menu had a nice number of hot and cold tapas, which gave it a feel of being a tapas restaurant while still offering meals if you would prefer. After further inspection of the menu, we realized that it consisted mainly of vegetable dishes and appetizer seafoods. It would be nice to have some meat dishes included in the hot menu to round out the tapas menu and more dishes that you don't put on bread. Also, you should make it clearer on the site that it is a BYOB restaurant. We were expecting to have a nice glass of wine and in order to do that we ended up running down the street to purchase a bottle. The good news is there is no corking fee.
