   The friendly attentive staff really make this restaurant special. The food is amazing! But warning to older clients - music interferes with hearing aids and the quantity of food on the tasting menu is a bit excessive for older digestive systems! When we asked for the lamb course "to go" the chef suggested just one more dessert course (not two) and gave us one to go. Really personal service! The breads in the earlier courses were terrific (especially the spring garlic arepa). The halibut was my favourite course - really exceptional. The tasting menu is terrific value for money and the accompanying beverage pairing was very interesting. Eat you heart out Commis - you need to do better to compete with his level of service.

   We made a same day decision to try Mago. We were disappointed to realize we missed coming here for the past five years. It was great! We booked at 5 pm because we were reluctant to book a “chef’s table” overlooking the kitchen. In fact, the kitchen is quite open and the chef’s table seating is really nice—expansive, not too high, and the noise level is moderate enough and the kitchen is calm enough that these seats would be fine. Our table was a round four top but seated for two. All the tables in the place are ample in size and they are not crowded together at all. Ambience is really quite nice and there is no noise intrusion from the busy city streets outside. Our prix fixe meal was excellent. Won’t enumerate all of the courses as the menu changes but everything was well conceived and executed. They make good use of the grill with amazing smoky flavors we had in asparagus, chicken and halibut Service was very attentive. They offer sparkling water with no charge. Nice touch. We had a nice Albariño from Uruguay. Overall the wine list was interesting with typical restaurant markups.

   Went for an anniversary dinner and we will definitely be back for more date nights! Food was excellent, beautifully presented and the price point is a bit more approachable than many tasting menus in the Bay Area. We loved that they had both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverage pairings.

   The best meal I have had this year. The meal consisted of multiple courses. There were no weaknesses in any of them. Every course was outstanding. This is difficult when there are multiple courses and one can fall through the cracks and not work out. That did not happen with my meal at Mago. The wine pairings were also appropriate. It was clear that the staff had searched the whole world for the pairings they selected. The effort paid off and I give the wine choices my very highest ratings. I rarely leave reviews, even though I have been to multiple restaurants. But this meal deserves the outstanding rating I have given it. It is hard to put into words how good this restaurant was. All I can say is see for yourself. You will not be disappointed.

   Delightfully imaginative and delicious food, worthy of a Michelin star, with interesting and very successful beverage pairings. The best value for money in the Bay Area, we think.

   We thoroughly enjoyed our meal at Mago. The food was excellent, each course delightful. Pairing was also fun and delicious with each dish. Our server was professional, very knowledgeable, friendly and attentive. Vibe was relaxed, which was unexpected because of the perfect execution of each dish. We enjoyed the view of the immaculate open kitchen. I had a gift certificate that was given to me 3 years ago. The staff didn’t blink and welcomed the use of it.

   I went for Oakland Restaurant week because I just moved across the street from Mago. Wow. I enjoyed each course and the wine pairings were Divine. The food was nuanced and delicious. Art really. I thought my waiter was really cool, friendly and I loved learning about the wines from him. The experience was also a performance. The way the staff was aligned and provided excellent service was so well rehearsed that it flowed with ease It was like being in an episode of The Bear without the anxiety. Lol. Truly memorable. I am so excited to bring friends and to become a happy hour regular! Thanks 🙏 for a fantastic sublime meal and experience.

    Tried a portion of their tasting menu for Restaurant Week and it was incredible experience! The staff was excellent and the chef talked to us a little when service ended to give us some insight on the menu components. Highly advise getting counter seating if you have a choice as they have an open kitchen - it's dinner and a show.
