About this restaurant

The Looking Glass Restaurant is located inside the Bar Harbor Hotel. The location is breathtaking, with the outdoor patio overlooking the harbor from several stories up. The Looking Glass Restaurant was honored as the "Best Breakfast with a View" in the state of Maine by "Yankee Magazine." Outdoor island fireplaces dot the patio, so guests are welcome to eat outside even when the weather turns a bit cooler. The dinner menu includes primarily seafood and takes advantage of the restaurant's close proximity to the ocean by offering several dishes featuring Maine lobster. The menu frequently changes with the seasons, but standards guests are likely to see include lobster bisque, rock crab and artichoke dip, mussels diavlo, chicken piccata and house-made ravioli. The Looking Glass Restaurant also has an impressive wine selection; it has won two consecutive Awards of Excellence from "Wine Spectator" two years in a row.

We thought our party of 4 was going to have a great evening. Here is what happened. We were the first guests our order was taken. When it came the steak was not properly done. We tried to eat slowly waiting for our one party's steak to arrive. We finished still no steak plus plus our meals were cold as we slowly ate. During this time other people got their meals. My guests meals should have been put to,the front of the order. Though the manager did comp us I would have rather had a nice experience. The waitress should have pushed for the meal but we only got excuses. We were the first guests there was no reason to mess up a steak. I hate these kinds of experiences at restaurants. It ruins the evening

We arrived on time for our Open Table reservation but the restaurant had no information about our reservation. Other than that the dining room was very attractive with lots of exposed beams and high ceiling with spectacular view of the ocean. Service was professional and timely. The food was excellent. I had a smoked seafood over linguini that was delicious.

Made rezzies in advance requesting window seat+made phone call to confirm request. On arrival 5 min. b4 reserved time, maitre de was surprised that we were requesting a window seat, saying that none were available+we would have to wait if we wanted to sit at window. There was a table set for 6 that could have been adjusted to accommodate our request, but she would not budge. She came thru dining area a few times to chk on the customers+never came to our table.Very disappointing on our 40th wedding anniversary. And, no party ever came for the table of 6 at the window. Otherwise, food superb, waitress a sweetheart,so made the best of it!Could not recommend to others. Dining out is a treat for us+too expensive to put up with any nonsense.

Great view of Bar Harbor, big meals of delicious food. On the expensive side, but worth it. The ambience and decor of the room is a bit lacking and can be loud if other parties in the restaurant are a bit talkative. We had a great time there and would definitely go back and recommend to others.

The only good thing about this place is the view and that comes with a room full of bugs buzzing around you. My wife and I both ordered vegetarian meals and the only flavor was from the burned bottoms. It was the most expensive meal we had in Bar Harbor and by far the worst.

The Restaurant (formerly Rhinehardts Dining Pavillion) has seen some changes over the years. It is THE best place for breakfast with a view overlooking the Bar of Bar Harbor that is unrivaled. New a few years ago, is the outdoor bar featuring a raised fire pit. One may sit out around the fire and enjoy a drink and the spectacular view. The kitchen is competent but Very Slow, so bring friends and your patience.

The food was average. Nothing outstanding. Aug 9th- The air conditioner and blowers were turned on too high and was blowing cold air on guests and the food even though the weather and night air was comfortable and didn't require much a/c.

The view from this restaurant is outstanding. The food was delicious however, the staff, waiter, was so inexperienced he did not even know the name for a decanter. He certainly did not know how to decant wine. His inexperience made the otherwise pleasant evening painful to watch him serve food. We declined dessert because we did not want to spend another hour waiting on it. Try it and maybe a new waiter will be there.
