   Anniversary dinner with my husband and son. It was slightly disconcerting to be the only people there at 7.30 but a few more tables filled up during the evening. The staff were lovely - helped my husband choose a delicious gin and tonic for me. My husband ordered a steak done rare but when it arrived it was well done! The waitress promtly went to the chef and returned to say that another was on its way so he ended up having two for the price of one.

   Turned up at 6,15 on a Sunday, exactly the time we had a booking for. As we arrived we were told that the kitchen was closing and that half the menu was missing, including the roasts. We had driven 3hours to get there. Staff could not give a toss and the food we did get was poor.

   Change of menu has not brought an improvement. Familiar dishes are competently cooked but not a restaurant now to visit for innovative food which is a pity. Enthusiastic service. Will return as quiet for business lunches but not the cooking.

   We were 20 minutes late. The staff canceled our reservation saying that the kitchen was closed ... they just kicked us out! According to the villagers we met, this is a fact of life in this establishment.

   Had a very nice meal but I would make a few observations. I had the filo pastry starter with red onions and cheese, I would have liked a lot less onion and more cheese, otherwise very nice. The belly of pork with 3 types of parsnip was ok but the creamed parsnip was so rich, I guess mashed with cream, that I couldnt eat it all. I think maybe you are trying too hard to be special, sometimes less is more. However, we have booked to come another night so we did enjoy it. I hope this is constructive and not too critical.

   It's nice to go for a meal where you are not rushed. The service and attention to detail is first class. One of our favourite places to eat.

   The food was very good but the overall experience was let down by the service. There didn't seem to be anyone obviously in charge. We had to wait a long time for our drinks order to be taken then even longer for the drinks to be served (we heard many other hotel bar guests chasing their orders too). My husband received the wrong main course only to be told what he had originally ordered wasn't available (although he hadn't been told this at the time). We had to ask for everything from salt and pepper to cutlery. The dining room was very quiet which was surprising for a Saturday evening so there wasn't much ambience.

   Lovely building and smart restaurant with white tablecloths and napkins. A great idea as I came several years ago and it was so noisy my husband and I were shouting at each other across the table due to wooden floors, wooden furniture so nothing to dampen the noise. I believe it has changed hands since then and is much better now. Staff were friendly and helpful but service was a quite slow. Food delicious, though it was a set menu with 4 choices for each course which was different from the menu on the website. We weren’t expecting that, so a little disappointed. We did enjoy the good we had, however.
