About this restaurant

  • Good for special occasions
  • Innovative
  • Romantic
Even among the plethora of dining options in New York City, Les Halles on Park Avenue stands out from the rest. The rich mahogany, warm colors and French decor match beautifully with this Parisian brasserie-style restaurant. This restaurant is known for two things. The first are Les Halles' cuts of meat. French butchering and wet aging make the meat delicious and tender. The second are the award-winning French fries. The menu at Les Halles is extensive, pleasing most anyone's palate whether it's for lunch or dinner. Opt for a signature steak such as the faux-filet Bercy, or branch out and try coq au vin, rooster cooked in wine and bacon. Pair the meal with a selection of vintage wine and finish with a tarte, flambée or sorbet.

Resto: ordered onion soup, then steak frites. Onion soup: excellent, taste exactly like grandma's recipe. Old school, really good. Portion perfect. Steak frite: well, this ain't a crazy charcoal boriled rib eye, but it was tasy, tender, etc. awesome fries. Overall, very good. 4/5 in my book. Can't remember giving 5 stars anyways. I would go again. It's not for people who are afraid of fat in their plate though. It's a traditional french brasserie, the kind that has disappeared (i would imagine). Loved my experience. Service was..."cold", but oh well.

Les Halles is always very good. It sticks to the French Bistrot staples, and does a grand job of it. The atmosphere is just like being in Paris, down to the chairs and banquettes, as well as the tile floor. The steaks are good, and well-prepared, the salads good, and the vegetables excellently prepared. All in all, a comfortable, reliable experience, especially when you just don't know where to go.

I recently booked a late Xmas night dinner for two at Les Halles, as In years past, I remembered it being a solid, reliable brasserie. Right away we felt rushed by our waiter, who told us we needed to order soon as the kitchen was closing. I don't know why an 11pm booking was accepted in the first place if we had less than.an hour to eat. Throughout the dinner, the waiter was rushed, inattentive, and clearly seemed annoyed to be working so late on a holiday. The food as well was a disappointment: my beef bourguignon was tough and chewy, and my friend's coq au vin hardly had any meat. The best part of the night was our busboy, who was also clearly exhausted but still amiable and helpful. I won't be coming back here again ever.

Les Halles was a disappointment. We were there on xmas. The place was packed. The hostess staff was polite and accommodating. The bar staff and stock was impressive. The wait staff and food was not worth the wait or price. The server was indifferent and rude. A hostess offered us bread with our escargot. The food was better in description on the menu than in execution on the plate. The waiter failed to check on us again until our plates were cleared and we were ready for our check. There are so many other more impressive restaurants in NYC, I would not waste the time at Les Halles.

We booked three restaurants through Open Table during a recent visit to Manhattan. Les Halles Park Avenue was our favorite. We went on Christmas evening and at 7 p.m. the restaurant was very busy. Our wait was short and as the meal progressed and our waiter was overwhelmed by the crowd, the manager came by and took our food orders. (The initial greeting and furnishing of water and alcoholic drinks was quite prompt) While we were waiting entrees a drink server came by and offered and brought us a second round. The intervention of the manager and this drink server made us feel more at home and when the food came we were quite pleased. We will definitely return to this restaurant on a future visit to NYC.

Awesome food and energetic ambience. It took a while for us to be serviced but understandable as this place is super busy. The Lamb chop and steak were divine. With this kind of pricing, totally beats some of the Michelin starred restos.

We get to Les Halles a few times a year, either this location or downtown. Always enjoy the meal and energy. We dined on Christmas and had a very early reservation for 5:30 - I thought we'd be eating with old folks. Not so. The place was teeming at 5:30. We waited 45 minutes for our table even tho we had a rezi. The bar was so packed it took 15 minutes to get a drink. It's a fun crowd and a fun place. But I was disappointed that thinking ahead still meant a 45-minute wait.
