About this restaurant

  • Charming
  • Good for special occasions
  • Neighborhood gem
Established in 1937, Le Veau d’Or reopens under neo-bistro extraordinaires, Chefs Riad Nasr and Lee Hanson.

The renaissance pays homage to the incredible history of the space while bringing an elevated level of execution to the food and beverage programs.

Le Veau d'Or serves a $125 prix-fixe dinner menu Tuesday - Saturday and an $85 prix-fixe lunch menu Tuesday - Friday. We can accommodate up to four people per reservation in our main dining room. Unfortunately, we don't push tables together for larger parties, but our private dining room can host groups up to 24!

Our bar is available for walk-ins where guests can enjoy lunch, dinner, or just a drink!

Our intimate dining room means we are unable to adjust party sizes once a reservation is confirmed. Decreases in party size will be subject to a fee of $50/seat.

Why they're an Icon

From the OpenTable editors: The James Beard–recognized restaurateurs from Frenchette, Riad Nasr and Lee Hanson, took over one of the oldest French restaurants in New York when they restored and reopened Le Veau d’Or in 2024. Take comfort in the wood-paneled walls, red leather booths, and red-and-white checkered tablecloths, and get ready for a polished prix-fixe menu of pâté en croûte, poached lobster, and île flottante, among others. Catch a nightcap at the cozy bar—it’s a tiny treasure with only five seats.

  • Spilled: Book Release Luncheon

    May 8, 2025 only
A special lunch celebrating the release of "Spilled: Natural Winemakers Stories & Recipes" - join co-authors Stephanie Mercier-Voyer, chef David McMillan, and wine importer Zev Rovine for a special lunch featuring recipes and wines featured in the book. About Spilled: The popularity of natural wine has taken the food and wine world by storm, and in this book, co-author Stephanie Mercier Voyer, chef David McMillan, wine importer Zev Rovine, and photographer Xavier Tera take readers on an immersive journey into the heart of natural winemaking. Part wine book, part cookbook, part road trip diary, Spilled: Stories & Recipes From Natural Winemakers brings readers beyond the vineyard and into the kitchens, cellars, and lives of 25 of the most influential natural winemakers in France and Italy. To truly understand natural wine, the authors knew they had to experience it firsthand. So they packed their bags and hit the road. From the limestone caves of the Loire to the sun-drenched hills of Sicily, they harvested grapes at dawn, slept in overbooked hotels and haunted castles, had kitchen dance parties, and stayed up late drinking, debating, and laughing. But no matter where the journey took them, each day ended the same way: gathered around a table, sharing meals and stories with the winemakers who are shaping the future of wine. The result is Spilled: Natural Winemakers Stories & Recipes—a book that blends intimate storytelling, evocative photography, and 34 home-cooked recipes straight from the winemakers’ tables. More than just a wine book or a cookbook, Spilled is a celebration of the human side of winemaking—the patience, passion, and occasional chaos behind every great bottle. Veau d'Or's $85 prix-fixe menu offers a choice of appetizer and entrée. While the prix-fixe menu is required, additional dishes can be added a la carte.

Such a wonderful experience in every way! Olivia was so kind and accommodating, as were all of the staff who visited our table. The energy is very similar to the Bistros we love in France, and the food is divine. We will most certainly return whenever we visit NYC!!

It was an absolutely exquisite meal. Every dish was executed perfectly, rich, straightforward, delicious, and balanced. The restaurant itself was warm, comfortable, and it really felt like you were somewhere in a quiet nook in Paris.

Overall very good. But they brought my fries after I had eaten half of my steak tartare. At least they apologized for the tardy delivery

The food is wonderful and the restaurant decor is like a time machine in the best possible way. The staff are incredibly nice and helpful. It can get loud, but after a couple of their martinis you won't care and likely you'll be loud too.

We had great service from a very friendly and approachable team, and an excellent lunch. Pate and escargots, chicken and steak frites. I want to return soon to try the duck. A real standout all around. Even the frites were top notch.

All the food we had was wonderful, especially the escargots. Our only suggestion is to add some mainstream French wines to the interesting list of organic ones.
