A Tradition In Authentic Italian Cooking!
We are the Zappaterreno Family and for more than 20 years we’ve owned, operated and crafted fresh comfort food our restaurant, Agriturismo La Mucca Ballerina in Rome, Italy. Chef Mario Zappaterreno and family's latest outpost.
At an early age, Chef Mario learned from his grandmother that the true Italian dining experience is more than just the food, it’s the combination of a welcoming environment where fresh homemade pasta and mozzarella, hand-picked vegetables and the right seasoning ingredients welcomes friends with open arms. Our Italian farmhouse style in downtown Sarasota is a true taste of Rome! Transport yourself to a agriturismo villa in Rome for the evening and enjoy the warm atmosphere and welcoming service + truly authentic cuisine.
For this simple formula of creating the fresh and flavorful food we loved growing up, our restaurant in Rome is successful... and to which I know bring to our new home in Sarasota.

Service was horrible. Waited 15 mins before someone waited on us and that trend continued as we waited about 15 mins to get our drinks, waters weren’t refilled. Entrees came out after about 45 mins. Very slow service. Food was very good but not worth the bad service.

Our favorite restaurant. We love spending time and dining here w our family. Everything is excellent. Pizza. Wine. Pasta. Specials. Service. Chicken. Veal. EVERYTHING. my wife’s father is off the boat spoke limited English and I can tell you this is as authentic as it gets to Roman style cuisine. We love it and feel at home when we’re there, Which is at least 4 times a month.

We finally were able to get a table at this Sarasota favorite. Service was amazing; friendly, informative. We had the lamb bolognese special ( ate every bite!) and the braccole. Had a side of the fresh grilled veggies. The portions were very ample and delicious. We took home some foccacia and enjoyed it the next day with our leftovers. It was just like being back in Italy. Fresh food and herbs. All homemade.. No rush. Relaxed. Spent time talking with our waiter and other guests. (They had meatballs and a pizza and loved their food as well.) Can't wait to go back.

As always, La Mucca Balerina is a great experience. The food is amazing and comes with exceptional and very traditional Roma service. This is our favorite Italian restaurant in Florida. We take all our out of town and in town guests here.

Weekend trip to Sarasota! Michael and staff were phenomenal. Food was divine. I had the homemade fettuccine with vodka sauce and salmon. The calamari was the best I’ve had outside of Greece!

Everything is super fresh and so delicious! Recommended: Parpadelle Bolognese, lasagna, Caprese salad, meatballs. The focaccia bread is wonderful, too. And, desserts are heavenly! We tried the limoncello cake, the tiramisu, and the pistachio ricotta cake. Our table was split over which was the best but we enjoyed all of them. The service is top-notch—friendly, warm, and helpful. Can’t wait to go back!

We had an table outdoors on a very hot night. It took a very long time to get our food and some of our items were very good and others not so great. I ordered the fish special which was snapper with capers and it was prepared well and very tasty. My husband ordered the stuffed pork chop which was dry. Our server was pleasant but too busy to refill our waters. I would recommend the restaurant if you can sit inside.
