We were not sure what to expect after reading negative reviews, but we were satisfied with the service, the price and very happy with the food. I had the prawns, wifey had the scallops.

My husband and I dined several times at Kono’s each year during our Maui vacation, including last year, and always looked forward to the experience of tropical outdoor dining, soft breezes, good service and nice atmosphere. What a big disappointment two days ago. Although we had a reservation when we arrived and asked to sit outside we were told the outside seating was first come, first serve (as three women sailed right past us at the hostess station and grabbed three seats). The outside seating has converted to “community seating” which means the tables seat six to eight with strangers sitting with strangers. Sunday night a full band plays outside so there is a $5.00 per person cover charge to have dinner outside where the band is set up. All this we learned from the woman whose job it is to be a hostess, however seemed to lack the enthusiasm or friendliness to be a hostess. Not wanting to “table share” we found a table inside (seating ourselves) and ordered beverages. Then the outside band started with ear splitting volume drowning out all conversation inside and outside. We finished our beverage, asked for the check, and left not staying for dinner. We were profoundly disappointed in the overall look, no longer table cloths, and nothing of the previous traditional Hawaiian look in the decor or staff dress. Kono’s, always a Maui favorite, is off our dining list. Helen’s M

When we walked into Kono's the atmosphere is nice and inviting but it took forever to get someone to notice and seat us at a table. We wanted to sit outside on the patio but there was very loud music outside (DJ I think) with a few people dancing and it seemed quite awkward. We were the only ones at table inside with a few people at the bar. The waitress was great and the food was good but the overall scene would make me stay away and not return. It wasn't cheap for the seemingly "club" atmosphere that was going on outside when we arrived.

We had 4 people In our party and arrived for happy hour. Had great drinks and appetizers. Stayed for dinner and the dinners were amazing. Beautifully presented and tasted even better than they looked. Enjoyed the live music by Jim Spector. Worth the drive from Lahaina.

This seems like a place for locals. We were seated then forgotten. I had to go to the manager twice before we were waited on. However, they did comp our drinks and the food was good, once we gave our orders.

I made reservations for Sunday Brunch August 20th for 5 people at 10:00 am on OpenTable and when we showed up at 10:00 am the hostess said they are closed for a private function. They never called or emailed me. They were also totally unaware of our reservation on OpenTable.

Shocking! When we walked in, there was a bad smell. several employees were milling about but no one came over to speak with us. Finally we walked over to one of the employees and asked to be seated. They rudely said they couldn't seat because they were preparing for a special engagement. They said we could sit at the bar, if we wanted. When we made the reservation no one told us about this. We'll never go hear again.

We were told there was no soup of the day because it "went sour". The waitress couldn't find her paper on which the fish of the day was written, had to go write it down and come read it to us. Two of our party ordered short ribs. Waitress comes back to tell us the short ribs aren't being served because "they're too tough". I changed mine to prawns. They came out very tough and bitter. The mango martini cocktail was sour and bitter. This place sure fooled us tourists! Learn from our mistake and take a pass.
