   The Kapaa restaurant is closed. Take this off open table! The couple who used to own the Lihue location got divorced and the husband opened up the Kauai location, but it shuttered. We made reservations, got a text to confirm reservation, showed up and the place is gone. No signs . Not good, had to scramble to find a place to eat. Had to eat in bar at Hukilau Lanai.

   Portion sizes were large but food was just ok. Great for a quick italian but not a high end restaurant.

   With two young kids it can be hard to find a restaurant that the whole family can agree on, especially when visiting a new place. We all had high hopes for Kauai Pasta, and we were not disappointed. We made a reservation, because many places on the island seem to fill up around dinner if you don’t. Turns out we didn’t need them. The restaurant is located a little away from the main drag of restaurants and grocery stores, so that might be why it wasn’t very busy. It’s definitely not because of the food or prices!! When we arrived there were a few locals getting food, which is usually a great sign. We started off with the house salad and house vinaigrette.It was so delicious (I would however recommend a few more cucumbers and tomatoes on top). I planned on sharing the salad with my husband, but the portion was big enough for all four of us to share! For A starter, we went the safe route and had a spinach and artichoke dip with fresh focaccia and were blown away. My kids usually hate spinach, but the mild onions, crispy baked cheese topping and the soft savory focaccia won them over. For entrées my husband had the house pasta w/meatballs, I had the pesto chicken Alfredo, made with basil and macadamia nuts, my daughter had the fettuccini Alfredo, and my son had the pizza from the kid’s menu ( the kid’s menu has about five options, with a sauce less pasta option, and a few meatless options as well). All the servings are very generous, although if you are ordering the kid’s pizza and your child is a big eater you may want to double it up. The pizzas are cooked on smallish triangles of the house foccacia, and are about half the size of a traditional slice, even if they are twice as delicious. The house pasta sauce was a marinara cooked with sausage and beef. The meatballs are add ons, but they give you quite a few and they were generously sized. My pesto and my daughter’s alfredo were delicious and the chicken was cooked just right (not too dry, but not undercooked).

   I don’t like that they opened the lounge with restaurant it’s too loud but I like everything else. We had Pulama she was great

   Now that Ele Ele is closed, we must drive to Lihue (small) or Kapaa. Different owners, different vibe--food is very good.

   The food was exceptional! Very flavorful and reasonably priced. The service was really slow. We waited about 20 minutes for our bottle of wine. The servers were very nice as well.

   Another great meal at Kauai Pasta Sunday night. Portions so big we each had to take 1/2 home.

    Although the food here was far superior to the other Italian restaurant we dined at while on Kauai, it was good but not awesome. For being on an Island 2500miles from mainland, I would expect that the prices would be high, but I would also expect to have very good food for the money that you spend. They had a so/so wine list with very few offerings by the glass and the service was fair. I doubt that I would return if I go back to Kauai. With that being said, if you need a break from huli huli chicken and pulled pork plates with white rice and mac salad... this place is definitely a nice change-up for sure.
