About this restaurant

  • Great for creative cocktails
  • Charming
  • Good for special occasions
Borrowing its name from an influential 1850s-vintage bar in the Central Business District, this pub-like tavern (with courtyard) occupies an old brick Creole cottage in the French Quarter, where well-known local bartender Chris Hannah serves up cocktails both classic and contemporary. London-born chef Philip Whitmarsh runs the kitchen.
Accolades include James Beard, World 50 Best, Art of Hospitality, Best Bar South (North America).

From the OpenTable editors: In a brick cottage with blue shutters in the French Quarter, you’ll find one of the best bars in the world, a James Beard Award winner ranked on the World’s 50 Best Bars. Beloved local bartender Chris Hannah shakes innovative cocktails like a curried banana colada or bologna negroni (say it out loud) starring mortadella-infused Campari. It’s worth staying for dinner, to sample half a dozen different types of caviar and unusual cuts like wagyu tongue and duck neck sausage.

Perfect as always! The cocktails are delicious and really special, and the food is absolutely divine. The service is also a real highlight here, every time. Our server (Fadoua) was so lovely and made great suggestions that were spot on. We come here every time we come to New Orleans, and we are never disappointed!

It was fine - I was just expecting a little more. We sat in the courtyard and while so many New Orleans courtyards are lush and gorgeous, this one just felt a little blah. The tables were close together, there were few plants, and strangely - there were wine bottles in a cage behind us. Not sure what that was about. My friend was vegetarian and so we ordered veggie dishes and they were meh. The drinks were great and the staff was kind, helpful and knowledgeable.

Exceptional staff. Our server was very knowledgeable about all cocktails and the wine list, as well as the food. Many go here for the bespoke cocktails, but dining here matches the drinks.
