   20% mandatory service charge that isn’t a tip. Ended paying $100 over the bill for the service charge and tip. It’s outrageous.

   Terrible- so not worth the money. Upon receiving the $660 bill for 4 people, there was a note in the billfold that read “we have added a 20% charge, however this is not gratuity.” We asked the waitress who told us she just learned about this that evening, and confirmed, she doesn’t get any of the 20% fee. In other words to give a tip to the well deserved waitress, we were expected to leave an additional 20%. Incredibly lame. Stay away from this place. Ripoff.

   We stopped into Jang's before a concert at the SF Symphony and were pleasantly surprised. While we expected Korean food, it was Asian-inspired with more of a Korean twist. The only choice was the tasting menu @ 85/per person with the option of a beverage pairing @ 55/per. You could add additional courses to the meal for 18+, and there is a 20% service fee included in the final bill. We started with an oyster with a pickled strawberry and spicy jue, and ended with the wagu steak (added the pork). All said, it was a filling and tasty 6-8 courses with a mix of surf and turf. We were the second party seated for dinner and chose to sit at the chef's counter. We got to see the prep and presentation as the courses came out. Each course was nicely presented and explained by the server, and we were sad we had to rush through the meal a bit to make our show time.

   Lovely meal with very interesting and tasty food. Some really different combinations that worked very well. Staff was very attentive. Important to note that really the only thing available is the tasting menu (just a few items as additions, but not an a la carte option).

   The restaurant has a tasting menu only. There are some extras you can order, and you can add a wine/sake pairing. I had the wine/sake pairing. I liked the sake a lot. I am more of a wine person but the sake was dry and went well with the food. I did not order any additions. There was plenty of food as it was. There were nice touches, like plenty of seaweed wrappers for the roll your own sushi. The beef course came with three kinds of kimchi or salad, plus rice. Everything had a lot of flavors. The spice level was mild. The ambience was great. They played jazz on the sound system. The tables are all in one long row, so it stayed quiet as the restaurant filled up. There was a service charge on the bill, for about the amount I would have tipped. Definitely recommend it as a place for a special meal.

    We did the chef’s tasting menu and it was delightful! We had so much fun, yummy and innovative food. Added the wine pairing and it was a great addition. Great experience!
