   This is my new favorite restaurant in Raleigh (after Bojangles of course!) The food is excellent. The first time I went was for Father's Day and I had the prime rib extra cut - it was the thickest cut of beef I have ever had, very large portion and cooked to perfection. Also it is a bit unusual for this type of restaurant to have sushi, at least in my experience. I am not a sushi eater but on my second visit a couple of people in my party had the sushi and they said it was very good. My latest visit - my third- was also very good. I had the swordfish which had a white sauce - I do not recall exactly what it was - which was ok but I would prefer the fish just grilled with a little seasoning. That is just personal preference and I was served exactly what I requested. Everyone else enjoyed their meal as well. Even though it was a Friday evening and they were very busy, the food was served in very reasonable amount of time. The waiters/waitresses have been excellent. Afterwords we went to their outside patio area and relaxed there for a while. A very enjoyable evening.

   Overall good visit...a couple of notes: 1. Generally really good food- We enjoyed the thin and crispy French fries as an appetizer; my wife had the Cypress Salad and it was quite tasty with its crispy chicken, avocados, bacon and pecans. I had the New Strip with NYO Mac and Cheese; the Mac and Cheese was really very good and it has a nice topping; the steak was good but however it was over cooked( I ordered it medium rare and it came out as medium well) so it lowered my food rating because I expected more for a $33 steak. 2. Ambiance- Overall it would have been good had it not been for an overly loud male patron in the next booth, and another table that had a really loud toddler. Neither parties seemed to be aware or even care about other diners; this reflected in my ambiance. 3. Service- the server was very attentive and helpful although at times she was overbearing and patronizing. 4. Overall- generally, I generally enjoyed my meal, the above items reflect in my overall rating.

   Loved this restaurant! Great selection on menu , great service, really enjoyed the meal and outstanding staff. We ended eating at the bar and it was a great experience. Will definitely go back to try other dishes. We had salmon and steak both cooked perfectly with nice spices . Do not miss coleslaw or their incredible chocolate bundt cake!

   I really like J Alexander’s. The food is just great. Shrimp Louis salad, yum yum ... great steaks too. I wish they would bring back their artichokes

   We brought my mother here for her birthday dinner. The staff thoughtfully included a card on the table with a happy birthday message inside. Well done. The service was impeccable, and the staff were great with my 8 month old daughter. Much appreciated. Finally, the food was awesome. I’d recommend the steak burger for anyone interested. My mother and wife both had the steak frites, and all 3 meals were cooked to the exact temperature ordered.

    We decided to finally try J. Alexander's for my birthday. Good food, great service and close to home with plenty of parking. Mac and Cheese is the best. Would go back just for that. It is a bit noisy and very hard to carry on a conversation. The drink menu is a bit short so choices are limited.
