This is 4th valentine visit to this location since 15years ago. My wife liked the service, food and atmosphere in this place on all 3 visits in past. This year...many thing changed. Service is far below par and the restaurant was half empty. Not usual for the 7Pm on Valentine’s day . It took long time to bring out 2 pieces of bread without butter. The waiter was not around to ask for butter. The food was ok but little salty. We drove 58 miles to this place from where we live. We are not coming this place anymore.

Wonderful ambiance, warm, friendly staff, from making the reservation (btw, they called me prior to our reservation to ask if we would like to be upstairs with the music), to being greeted by the hostess. Our server Therese was great, helpful in choosing our dinners, explains how food is prepared and where it comes from. The wine “sommelier “ McKendrick was outstanding, taking the time to discuss our wine choice and even sending over a second bottle, with her complements. We will be returning next weekend, and Highly recommend to anyone wanting a unique, delicious, truly welcoming dining experience, don’t pass this gem in Hope,New Jersey up.

We always enjoy having dinner at the Inn at Millrace, it is such a beautiful venue and the food is outstanding! We had a cocktail in the tavern which is a treat because of it's grist mill history with huge beams and a massive fireplace along with stone foundation. We had dinner in the dining room, Layla was our waitress, we've had her as our server before and she does an excellent job. It is always a nice night when you go to the Inn, it is one of our go to places.

Excellent in all respects, as usual. We combine our very nice lunch with a visit to The Nest, making the one-hour drive from our place in Essex County to Hope a completely pleasurable afternoon.

The Inn is a great place to meet friends as it is not noisy and the food and wine is excellant. Staff fun but professional and very tidy in their attire.

Food was spectacularly prepared and served. The ambiance was both historic within the mill setting and friendly. Highly recommend this unique establishment for its commitment to a total fine dining experience.

The MillRace Pond restaurant is located in a very old, rustic building and it is warm and inviting. We enjoyed the food but wish there were more selections. I had the NY strip steak and my husband had the filet mignon. They were quite pricey and if we didn't have the gift certificate that we had, we would have opted for a burger, wings, or sandwich. We also had the crab cake appetizer which was supposed to be "Sharable". It was barely enough for two but was excellent. In fact, it was the best crab cake I've ever had. An entré with two crab cakes would have been great but unfortunately, it wasn't an offering. It was my birthday and so our desserts and coffees were "on the house". Our waitress, Layla, was wonderful! We also enjoyed the entertainment.

We went for Mother’s Day. We were first to arrive and asked to wait while they had a staff meeting, which was ok since we were a few minutes early. After getting seated, while placing our order, we asked how the eggs were done with the steak and eggs. My wife was ok with poached, but asked for the sauce on the side. I asked for a substitution of poached for fried. When the dishes were delivered, several things were not as we ordered. When i stated these entrees were not as ordered, we were told “that’s how the chef serves it”. I wouldn’t have selected this had I been informed I wasn’t getting what I ordered. The steaks were tough, too well done and small. When a second staff person came over, she dismissed our concerns and told us “the chef does it all the same, we can’t have special orders with 200 meals”. Later the manager walked by, and told us he wasn’t charging for 1 of these. I told him I would have preferred to just get my order as expected and he also admitted the chef isn’t flexible. Apart from that, our daughter ordered chicken and waffles which were such a small portion she wad still hungry. The value is not in keeping with other options we are used to and the lack of attention to customer requests is really amazing. If the chef isn’t going to do it our way(is it really too much to ask to have the sauce on the side?) then come and tell us and we will select another choice. The choices were very limited, the portions too small for the price and they didn’t try to make us feel like they were even willing to meet our needs. With plenty of other choices, we won’t return, and we were left with the impression they don’t even care. Not recommended, which is a shame since it’s close, very historic and has such potential.

One of our favorite restaurants! We love Friday nights as they always have live music. Great way to start the weekend!
