Golden Bear Station is a New American restaurant that offers a unique perspective through the lens from the owners of Animo and Mu Ramen.
Mu Ramen and Animo owners Joshua Smookler and Heidy He have received exceptional recognition, including a prestigious 2-star review from the New York Times in 2015. The New York Times also dubbed them as the best ramen in NYC, while Eater named them the best ramen in America in 2016. Animo, on the other hand, has been praised by the San Francisco Chronicle and recognized as one of Esquire's Best New Restaurant in America in 2022. Both restaurants have earned a place and acknowledgement in the Michelin guide.

5-stars rating system understates the exceptional quality, presentation & execution of the entire dining experience at this unassuming restaurant. You’ll be warmly greeted & welcomed into a candlelit, warm, minimalist space. No pretentiousness or stuffiness.
Wine list, with its old & new world selections, is extensive for a small restaurant. Spicy boquerones in its nicely seasoned, spicy olive oil & cherry tomatoes served with warm, crunchy buttery toasts stuns the palate. Chef Joshua’s Korean rice “cakes” (pasta) with mortadella bolognese sauce is inventive, creative, beyond tasty. The rice cake’s light texture pairs perfectly with the richness of the sauce.
Loup de mer (fish) is exceptionally tender & moist with the right amount of exterior crispiness. Duck breast is superbly prepared at medium-rare with its delicate, light mandarin orange sauce. Too often this dish can be served with an overly sweet orange sauce that can ruin the duck, but again, chef Joshua makes this entree shine with the accompanied wonderful celery root purée.
The excellent service is nicely paced, allowing you more than sufficient time to enjoy your meal & your company. Heidy’s suggestions & wine pairings are spot-on.
The meal is pricy, but leaves you with an exceeds expectations feeling, worthy of the splurge and the beautiful drive to Kenwood.

Fabulous experience! Husband and wife team running the place and they really make you feel right at home. Everything we ate was delicious. Good wine list. We will be back.

I highly recommend it, ambiance (candles everywhere), food & service were 10 out of 10. We had many starters including the salad, shrimp, spicy tuna & clams. Every bite was delicious. The veal entree was the best but the pasta dishes were so interesting & unique. Desserts were amazing! We will be back!!

The menu is different from before no more pizzas, and limited pastas. We tried the rice cakes with bologanese sauce it was wonderful!! The Hen of the woods mushrooms dish outstanding and the veal Milanese was really good.
