About this restaurant

  • Good for special occasions
  • Charming
  • Good for groups
Chef Stephanie Izard and her team are thrilled to have joined LA’s vibrant restaurant community and continue our tradition of serving bold-flavored foods in a fun and lively family-style setting. Stephanie and her team have also crafted new dishes inspired by California produce and local flavors, like carrot-tahini dip with tahini tofu, and curried goat with radishes, pickled vegetables, and masa chips. To enhance the experience we offer a selection of wines from around the world with a focus on small producers, a rotating list of craft beers, and a list of innovative cocktails created by our bartenders.

Located in the Arts District at 555 Mateo, Girl & the Goat offers dinner service Monday through Sunday, plus brunch Sunday. Girl & the Goat accepts reservations but always welcomes walk-ins, travelers and adventurers!

Every dish was incredible. We tried 12 different items and they were all 10/10. Service was great and very informative about allergies.

Disappointed by the Hype — Underwhelming Experience We were excited to try Girl & the Goat after hearing great things, but unfortunately, the experience fell short. The service was inconsistent and chaotic — plates were taken away by one person, but then no one followed up. We literally had to flag someone down to get attention again. The food itself was decent, though not exceptional. However, the dessert was a letdown — the miso pineapple cake was so sweet it actually gave us a headache. Balance matters, especially at this level. One of the biggest disappointments was the tea situation. My wife and I ordered two teas and were brought a single pot to share. When we asked for separate ones, we were told they “didn’t have enough tea pots.” Seriously? You’re charging $12 for two teas — it’s not unreasonable to expect individual service, especially when we each prefer our own steep strength. The excuse felt careless. To top it off, there’s an added surcharge on the bill. I understand operating costs are high, but just raise your prices if needed. Don’t pass the buck to guests in such an obvious and awkward way — it comes across as nickel-and-diming. The space is nicely designed and feels fresh, but the experience lacked soul. No one seemed to be managing the floor or truly caring about guest satisfaction. It wasn’t a disaster, but it definitely wasn’t worth the hype or price. Sadly, we won’t be returning.

Everything conspired to make a lovely evening for my friend and me. It was a vastly different experience from the lackluster service and experience the last time i was here (food late, slow, inattentive service.) I had requested a special table and Jacob made sure to honor it. It was nice and quiet and we even got a perfect parking place. It was my friend's first time at Girl and the Goat and she was so impressed . (and is not somebody easily impressed) . Our server, Richard, was attentive (as were the rest of the waitstaff), and the food is always delicious and inventive. Thank you to all for making a lovely, relaxing evening.

All dishes tasted wonderful. Definitely ordered way more than needed. I think between the two of us three dishes would have sufficed. The goat liver mousse is very filling. I was pretty stuffed afterwards before the two mains arrived. We also ordered the Roasted oysters as well The halibut was one of my favorites along with the oysters. The oysters were SO tender and melted in your mouth. And the flavors were on point! Cocktails were tasty. Would def go back to try more dishes. Beautiful restaurant.

I heard great reviews about this place. However, I did not have a good experience. Everything was ok up until I told them the halibut was too salty and that I cannot eat it. NOTHING was done except "we will let the chef know." At the end they just took my uneaten halibut away and I reminded him that the halibut was too salty. Complete silence. I can tell you that with a service like that we will not be back and will tell my other friends my experience.

The food here was so fresh and delicious. The portion sizes for brunch were good , but family style so our server told us it was best to order two mains and two sides. The plants in the restaurant were beautiful and it wasn’t too crowded. Great drinks. Only thing I would critique is how close some of the tables are to each other.
