The Afternoon Tea Ritual is a quintessential St. Regis tradition and an important part of our culture. The story of afternoon tea date back to Anna, Duchess of Bedford who is considered to have invented the ceremony of the afternoon tea party. Mrs. Caroline Astor adopted the tradition stateside, offering an occasion to gather her closest intimates as a prelude to formal social events. This ceremony was then continued by her son, John Jacob Astor IV, at the St. Regis New York, and ultimately around the world as a signature ritual in all of our hotels.. Our exquisite afternoon tea ritual offer is presented in Oriente Italiano™ c/o Ginori 1735. La Via del Tè is particularly sensitive to environmental and ethical issues.

Celebrated my husbands birthday with a very special dinner at Gio’s during our vacation in Venice. We had a lovely table outside on the canal with beautiful views and the ambiance was amazing. It got a little chilly and blankets were offered and gladly accepted. The food was outstanding although a bit pricey for what was served. It also became busy and the staff didn’t give the service one would expect for this type of restaurant. Otherwise, it was a fantastic meal and bday celebration!

I was filled with anticipation for eating at the beautiful St. Regis hotel. We were warmly greeted by the bar staff, who gave us options on where to have a drink while waiting for our 7 PM reservation. It appears the hotel is attempting to create a hip, modern vibe to appeal to the anticipated tastes of a young clientele. I felt like the only way to enjoy that music was to microdose. The music was loud and distracting to the magnificent surroundings throughout the lounges, lobby, and dining room. I asked them to turn off one of the stations as it clashed with the other rough-around-the-edges music they were playing at the adjacent bar. The music had a significant impact on the whole experience, with very unpleasant sounds. As it was cold, I asked to be seated inside. The inside dining area was clearly an afterthought and in desperate need of a refresh. The walls were dirty and peeling. Although we were seated near a window facing a giant Miu Miu ad, my seat was next to an enormous plug on the wall. The dining area was dismal. The table settings, flatware, and china were also uninspired. I observed people dining outside on the terrace, and they were bundled up and shivering. At least we weren't cold. I wanted to eat à la carte, but we were told to optimize the experience; both of us should order the prix fixe menu. We opted for "Gio's Experience," which was a cavalcade of tiny portions of average to disappointing food. I would likely have ordered only one or two of the items from the "experience" section on the à la Carte menu. Nothing we ate resulted in something I would recommend ordering. The service was polite and efficient. The lead server had been well-trained and spoke fluent St. Regis. The unsmiling sommelier gave a comically scripted explanation of wine speak, more like a lecture. If you still wish to dine here, you can disregard the posted dress code. They freely let people in with jeans and t-shirts.

Everything was extraordinary, the food, the staff, the atmosphere, the location. It is a place where you immerse yourself in a state of high end cuisine, luxury and taste.

This was a memorable experience. The food was wonderful and the attention to detail and service impeccable on our Golden Wedding Anniversary day. I would certainly recommend as we will be returning one day.
