The bright and energetic atmosphere cultivated by Frontera Grill perfectly complements its modern Mexican cuisine crafted by acclaimed chef Rick Bayless. The street food menu makes for great starters, with items such as the smoked chicken taquitos with anejo cheese and the coconut shrimp tamal wrapped in banana leaves. House specialties include the pork in mole quertano with spicy and sour white sweet potatoes, the garlicky chicken in local ramo mojo with crispy nopales, and the shrimp in black bean chorizo sauce with cheddar. Frontera Grill also has daily specials, such as Thursday chiles rellenos stuffed peppers and Saturday chipotle-glazed pork ribs costillas. The duo de flanes pineapple-black pepper flan with rum-braised pineapple chunks and classic Mexican vanilla flan is a stunning dessert. Frontera Grill's after-dinner drinks such as the Kahlúa, tequila and Mexican hot chocolate Café Playa are unmissable.

    You cannot go wrong with Frontera or Topolobampo ..... I mean, come on. This is a Rick Bayless Mexican Restaurant. It doesn't get any better than this. I first dined at Frontera back in December for my birthday and not only did they accommodate our large party but everyone loved each and everything they ordered! Oh, and we loved the Margaritas :) I visited again this past week for my Anniversary and as expected, they surpassed my expectations, once again. If you're in Chicago, this is a must on your list of places to go!

    This is one of the best restaurants in the city. I love to dine here although don't as much as I would like. The food is really good and authentic. Menu is always fresh and full of local products. Brunch, lunch, dinner all great choices here. If you would like to eat some great authentic Mexico food and great drinks - try this place. Always fresh and new items frequently. Rick Bayless is one of the best chefs eveer.

    Drink proper margaritas and munch fresh chips and salsas while waiting for a table. Then enjoy authentic yet inventive Mexican cuisine created in world-famous chef Rick Bayless' inimitable style. Deeelish!

    We dined with out of town guests who had a special interest in this restaurant. Unable to get a reservation, we took our chances and dropped by for brunch at about 1pm. We were told there would be a wait of one hour but could look for seats at the bar. That room was full and I inquired about the table for four outside that was empty and they told us we could take it! Strange that the hostess does not keep track of those tables, but we enjoyed the spot, although it was a very hot day. The special strawberry/habanero guacamole was delicious but the queso fundido was strangely flavorless. The black beans were very good, the orangy ones not so much. I had ceviche which was plentiful enough for a main course. The pork tacos were very good.
