A little about us & the culture that has been created…
Friedmans is a family run business, which operates locations throughout New York City. Friedmans was named after the famous economist Milton Friedman who popularized the phrase, “there ain’t no such thing as a free lunch”. This phrase has gone on to be used in science, economics, finance, statistics, technology, sports, & now food. However, to put it simply, “to get one thing we like, we usually have to give up another thing we like.”

The original store opened in 2009. One of the pioneers Vanessa had been diagnosed with celiac disease and had to eat gluten-free. So when the first location opened she was vocal about making it a gluten-free safe haven for her and her celiac peers. After long hours in the kitchen and playing with all different sorts of flours we believe we have created some of the best pancakes, waffles, and fried chicken. More importantly, they are all intrinsically gluten-free.

After some initial confusion about what Friedman's we were going to, i.e. on West 47th or West 49th, we finally made it there! We loved our dinner, the food was great and the service was top notch!

From a gracious welcome to excellent service throughout the meal, this was a first-rate dining experience. The fish tacos were prepared deliciously with red snapper instead of more common fare. The meal was topped off with a melt-in-your-mouth cheesecake slice. Superb meal.

Friedmans was a quiet respite from the noisy theater district. The food and service was five star. The manager came by to welcome us and make sure we had everything. Will be returning often!

Great location, right in the theater district. Perfect place to eat before a show. The food was delicious! My order did not come out correct and it was fixed immediately, no questions, with a smile. Amazing customer service and quality service from our server as well. It was a really enjoyable experience, would definitely come back again!

Great stop for lunch before a matinee. Perfect location. Ordered the waffle special, steak/eggs, french toast and burger- cleaned off the plates. Will add to our list of regulars.

This restaurant was excellent! I had reservations at 10:30, we arrived at 10:18 and were seated immediately. We reviewed the menu prior to arrival and ordered immediately. Our food was brought to us at 10:36. The service was amazing. I would definitely recommend and go back again!
