My wife and I were pleasantly surprised by a Russian Restaurant in Sacramento, which rivals many Russian restaurants in London, SF, and NYC. The only thing(and minor) is the ambiance, which was family-friendly but not a spot for a romantic evening. The food was excellent with my whispering, "we'll be back." If they fancied it up, it might lose the family restaurant feel. It was great to be in a restaurant and be the only table not speaking Russian.

Communication with the server/hostess beyond ordering is difficult. However, the food is always good. The Soljanka tastes exactly like at home. Which is remarkable to me because it is not always easy to replicate flavors in other countries. The bread is also authentic.

Great change of pace to have good Russian fare. We had the Borscht, chicken kiev and beef stroganoff. All were delicious comfort food. Our server, the owner’s wife was attentive and helpful. Would go back.

If you are looking for authentic Russian food, this isn't the place to find it. Yes, you can get beet soup and Beef Stroganov, but you will be disappointed. We found the food to be very bland and lacking in flavor. One dish we could recommend as an appetizer is the spinach blini. The wines were Maldovian and lacked texture. The decor was early Appalachian. One positive was the very pleasant service.
