About this restaurant

  • Charming
  • Great for outdoor dining
  • Neighborhood gem
Built in 1927, Fig313 stands today as an original historical landmark of San Clemente, with a history that is meant to be shared with its seaside community. Carefully constructed in the Spanish Colonial Revival style, distinctive design features include red-tile roofs, white stucco walls, hand-crafted windows and arches, painted tiles, and open-air courtyards.

Originally owned for the first 33 years by John and Jeanette Riley, 313 El Camino Real was renowned as Riley’s Waffle and Coffee Shop. Legend has it that actor John Wayne frequented the restaurant for a hearty American breakfast along with many travelers from all over the world. From 1960 on, Riley’s Café would change ownership many times, evolving into a furniture store, French restaurant, tequila company, and catering business. In 2012, the current owners purchased the property and began renovations and restoration, while staying true to the integrity of the original style.

Dining at Fig313 was a fantastic experience from start to finish. The food was nothing short of excellent—each dish was cooked to absolute perfection, with great attention to flavor, texture, and presentation. You can tell the kitchen puts real care into every plate that leaves it. Whether you’re into rich, hearty mains or lighter, more refined fare, there’s something on the menu to impress any palate. The interior of the restaurant is just as impressive as the food. The atmosphere strikes a perfect balance between modern elegance and cozy charm. It’s clear that a lot of thought went into the design, from the lighting to the seating arrangements, creating a warm and inviting space that enhances the overall dining experience. One of the true highlights of the evening was the cocktail selection—especially the Smoked Fig Old Fashioned, which is a house specialty. It’s a clever and delicious twist on a classic, with a rich, smoky aroma and a smooth, fig-infused finish that sets it apart. It’s the kind of drink you’ll remember and want to come back for. Overall, Fig313 delivers on every level—delicious food, impeccable drinks, and a beautiful setting. Whether you’re celebrating something special or just in the mood for a great meal and cocktail, this place is a must-visit.

The appetizer was good. However, the medium rare burger I ordered came out overcooked & dry as sandpaper. My date’s chicken was also overcooked & super dry. It took an hour to get our plates of dry waste , so I inhaled it out of pure starvation rather than complain. I’ve been here before and it was great, but the Chef totally screwed this one. Cooking a piece of beef anything more than medium rare is a true sin. Who screws up a burger… Cmonnn Man !!!

High quality food, incredible service, a seasonal menu with staples that never disappoint…there is a reason Fig is our go-to restaurant for special occasions! In Andrew we trust when it comes to service and mixology. I wish everyone would learn from what Fig is doing and try to emulate…it would elevate South County fare substantially. Until then, I will continue to choose Fig every chance I can.

Lovely outdoor patio. Service was excellent. Great menu choices and cocktails. Food presentation was beautiful and food was good but for the price I felt it lacked a bit in flavor. We had the scallops and the short ribs. There were four medium to smallish size scallops which were good but not loaded with flavor and felt they were overwhelmed by the lentils they were sitting on top of. The plate was mostly filled with of lentils and carrots. The short ribs had a good flavor but didn’t care much for the over creamed potatoes underneath. We enjoyed our time but for the hefty price point felt we could have had a better tasting meal elsewhere.

Fig313 - What a surprise! I was expecting a good meal, but found incredible food in a delightful setting - in the outside, heated garden listening to the trickling fountain. The wine-poached pear salad had so many different flavors; the boeuf Bourguignon with the Italian twist used filet mignon and sweet cipollini onions; the very large tender sea scallops were perfectly seared; and the roasted salmon came atop a variety of roasted vegetables. We were too full to try the moist fig cake. Next time we are in town, we’ll definitely be coming here to explore what else the chef prepares so exquisitely.

Had a lovely date night at Fig 313. The ambiance was just what I was hoping for - charming and elegant. Service and food were top notch. We had the pear salad, filet mignon and lobster special and ended with bread pudding with Carmel ice cream. Everything was lovely and delightful.

I booked a table for on the patio and asked for a quiet location. It was our anniversary and I wanted to be able to have a conversation with my husband. The table was situated in the middle of the patio which was beautiful and had several heaters to ward off the evening chill. In the back of he patio was a party of 4 young women who were heavily into their cocktails and were louder than everyone else on the patio combined. The noise did subside somewhat when their food arrived however. This caused me to notice that the music of choice for this romantic, wisteria trimmed patio was Rap music. I know Rap has its place in the music world, but it seemed to be inconsistent with the ambiance the restaurant owners had designed. The Rap music played the entire time we were there and was annoying. The food was very good, we shared a Caesar salad and enjoyed the fried capers. My husband had an order of meatballs which came smothered in a chunky marinara sauce that was delicious. I had the scallops resting on a bed of black rice (a first for me) and pureed acorn squash. It was delicious. On our reservation, I indicated that it was our anniversary dinner, but there wasn't any mention of it be the host or the waiters. We might try Fig another time, but I don't feel compelled to return.
