El Coqui in Santa Rosa serves up Puerto Rican cuisine that goes beyond being authentic. Each entrée is served traditionally with avocado salad, rice and beans and the choice of fried green or sweet plantains. Speaking of plantains, as such an important part of Puerto Rican cuisine, the menu includes whole sweet plantain stuffed with either seasoned ground Angus beef or with red or black beans for the vegetarian option. A unique option is the 3-course prix fix special offered one night per week. It includes a starter, entrée and dessert. Other days of the week there are additional specials offered. The El Coqui menu is full of authentic choices such as empandillas, tostones and the special homemade flans – coconut or cheese. Guy Fieri visited El Coqui and said, “It’s like hangin’ out in Old San Juan.”
