   I called Dukes many times to confirm my reservation however I never got an answer an bug there not an opportunity to leave a message... unsure of what situation may have but as a result I did not visit this venue.

   The reason for this poor review has nothing to do with Duke's. However, the restaurant is shut down!!!!!! Thankfully, I found another restaurant up the street! smh

   The restaurant was closed for vacation. How did you not know that? There we were at 7 on a Saturday night in Newark with no reservations anywhere else. Bad job by you open table!

   I'm extremely upset and disappointed. I've dined at the restaurant on several occassions and have never had an issue. This would have been my mother's first time and birthday dinner. I made reservations online and confirmed but when I arrived at the restaurant it was CLOSED!!!! Noone even tried to contact me. My mother's birthday dinner was ruined. PLEASE do not accept reservations if the restaurant is CLOSED for a period of time. The website of the restaurant was active when I made my reservations but now it states closed! Horrible way to be treated!!!!!!

   When I arrived with all my staff the restaurant had a sign stating that they were closed for the summer. It was a complete inconvenience to not only me but my staff, some of which traveled a great distance to attend the lunch. I would have appreciated notice that the restaurant was closed. i shouldn't have even been allowed to reserve a table. very poor business practices.

   My companion and I had reservation for 8:15. We arrived 15 minutes early and was seated immediately. The ambiance was excellent. The jazz band was great. But, took over and hour for us to be served our meals. The server explained, a large party had arrived and they were very busy. It doesn't excuse the fact that people who were seated after us received their meals before we did. The service was horrible for it not to be busy. I was given a drink "on the house" for my inconvenience. It was my first time there and it's my last.

   This was our 4th or 5th time dining here. Always a pleasure. We come for the great jazz and are always pleased with the food. Menu has evolved over the past 2 years and continues to be tasty. Love the fact that happy hour is long and includes mixed drinks as well as beer and wine. The jambalaya is amazing and you can never go wrong with the southern fried chicken - moist and tender and just the right amount of spices. Quantities are filling and we always end up taking home leftovers. Look forward to our next visit!

    I'm happy that Duke's continues to be a go-to spot in downtown Newark! Weekends are always nice because of the jazz, so not quite as crowded on Thursday when we went. Specialty drinks are DELISH. Hats off to every bartender I've had the pleasure of encountering in there! I had the shrimp and grits - Shrimp were a very nice size and the accompanying gravy was really good. A little too much of the grits, perhaps. My friend really enjoyed her salmon/candied yams/mac & cheese. Servers are always pleasant and I will definitely be back!
