About this restaurant

  • Good for special occasions
  • Lively
  • Neighborhood gem
Izakaya Den is Denver’s popular Japanese gastropub, modeled after the lively after hours establishments found throughout Japan. The restaurant is located on South Pearl Street and is the second restaurant of the Kizaki brothers, founders and owners of Sushi Den.

The menu is arranged in a tapas style, serving traditional Japanese small plates along with dishes infused with international flavors and textures. The more traditional Japanese offerings include sashimi and nigiri, sourced from daily fish shipments from around the globe, along with dumplings and noodle dishes. The global cuisine experiments with a bevy of different flavors including unique items such as Grilled Panzanella Salad (jumbo lump crab, toasted focaccia, local goat cheese, pistachios, plum wine vinaigrette), Kobe Beef Sliders (seared foie gras, pomme frittes). A gluten-free menu is also available along with a popular weekday happy hour from 5 to 6:30 pm.

Another outstanding dinner at Izakaya Den…the freshest sushi in Denver and truly professional, knowledgeable service. The Hostess team deserves kudos, for their hospitality and the first class experience they provide, in welcoming to guests. We love the Aburi at both Izakaya and Sushi Den, the very best selection anywhere. The fresh fish from all over the world, that isn’t found anywhere in Denver. We have friends from California, that know of Izakaya and Sushi Den. If you are fortunate enough, to join in the Chef’s Table, you will think you are in Tokyo. Highest recommendations to Izakaya Den and their outstanding team.

The chefs were impressive! The bartenders were busy. I think it would be nice if the 1st crowd was gone when the 2nd seating arrived, but the food lines weren’t long. It was just hard to find a table to sit or stand and eat. Eventually it cleared out and was better. The event was fun! I didn’t realize it was going to be like a party. We had to join another table so ended up meeting other people, which I didn’t expect.

Hi fellow foodies. I’d just went to an event at Izakaya Den on 4/21 called Aburi x Sushi Den: A Culinary Dinner Celebration at IZAKAYA DEN. It was a $200 per person experience which was totally not worth it! I was expecting a nice sit down meal with a set menu to wow my palate. Instead, I was totally underwhelmed and disappointed with the food and atmosphere. It turned out to be an all you can eat and drink buffet that was crowded with little to no seating space. I had previously attended one of their special dining event a couple of years ago and had loved it. This was a total bait and switch. The food was nothing special in my opinion. There was nothing in the description to tell you about the event arrangement. I am not planning to attend any more of their dining events. Highly disappointed because I’ve been a loyal patron since the 90’s.

Went there for the Aburi Group x Sushi Den event as an early birthday present to myself. Was described as an all you can experience food/drink event. Food was great, delicious! Staff there were helpful and friendly. Was hoping there would be another price option if you did not partake in the alcohol, but regardless, it was $200 per person. I’m glad gratuity was pre-calculated. Got our wristbands and went upstairs- was very surprised to find out it was a help yourself situation - applied to both food and seating. It was packed and saw many people awkwardly standing around, waiting for a table. We were lucky to snag a bar height table (but not seats) and was there for about an hour (on a two hour timeslot) before some actual seating opened up. Kind of disappointed with how that turned out, was more chaotic than I thought it would be. Not sure if I’d attend a special event like that anymore, or if it would be better just to dine there for a normal meal. Especially when it ended up being $400 for two.

We were very unhappy with the ticketed event. It was completely incorrectly advertised.

Our experience at Izakaya was a 10/10. The staff were so friendly and welcoming from the hosts to our server. I can’t remember his name but he provided great recommendations and explained in detail the story behind the restaurant and overall made our experience very personable. The food was immaculate. Very fresh and popping flavors in every dish. We will be back!

We reserved at Izakaya Den for our wedding anniversary. We had been to Izakaya Den once before and decided to return for this special occasion. The menu and the quality of the kitchen were outstanding. We had a wonderful table on the second floor next to the open open window. Wonderful table location although at times extremely loud. Unfortunately our server Cohli was disinterested, somewhat confrontational and not at all friendly. At a price point of $100 per person, I would expect the quality of service to be at the same level as the quality of food.
