Short description - NEVER AGAIN. The quality of the steak we had was somewhere between IHOP and Denny’s. For those that love this place, don't worry. I will never go back. Reminds me of a old roadside spot that still has the illusion that it is a real restaurant. There are so many other choices around.

I have always enjoyed the North Woods Inn, and have bee to the San Gabriel and Azusa locations, it is a very meat and potatoes spot and has great decor. I would recommend it to anyone with a health appetite that is not particularly health conscience. The food is rich, heavy, large and wonderful. Now going to NWI For our anniversary dinner it was a mistake. Making a reservation and asking for a secluded romantic table as a request sounds good, but the hostesses do not read the notes and will stick you at the first table they find. I had to ask to be moved and remind them of the request I had made for our anniversary, and they seemed put out that I actually asked politely to be moved. Our waitress was very nice, pleasant and did a great job. I will absolutely be going back to NWI, but it will not be for a special occasion like my anniversary.

Food is just as good as I remember it from 20 years ago! Ambience casual peanut shells all over the floor... The food was meant to be tasted and is not really set up for anybody's diet but the flavor is incredible. Excellent old fashioned steak house experience! Wait staff was friendly and very happy. Overall experience was just what I needed great food, great drinks, happy waiters, an excellent evening!

I've been to these restaurants a number of times and the food is always very good. Their two salads, a purple cabbage slaw and a blue-cheese/lettuce salad, are highlights. The garlic bread is delicious but really, really greasy...the oil squishes out of the bread into your mouth when you bite down on it. I've never understood serving two starches with the meal, though. You get a huge baked potato AND rice pilaf. I'd rather have a vegetable than the rice. A couple of sprigs of broccoli would make the meal complete. The prices are inordinately high for the style of restaurant and the type of food being served. When you serve garlig bread on a plate covered with foil, you're not serving food that costs $30+ per person.

this place had been a family favorite for many years. fast forward 20 years and we are back in the area for a visit. boy have things changed. what was once a regular family dining spot has become incredibly expensive unless you order something simple like soup or a burger. still the same delicious cabbage salad and cheese bread; recipes seem to be the same. there used to be lines out the door and almost always a wait to dine. the other night only one dining area open and not nearly full. no wait, no lines. very short staffed. tv's all around the bar. no live piano player. they've sold off almost all of the property and a big kohl's dept. store looms over the entrance. things seem rundown, the roof needs a coat of white paint. we were so disappointed. i'd go back again but my expectations will be so much lower.
