I absolutely loved China Chilcano! We happened to find it on a Tuesday and needed an early dinner prior to an evening tour. Lucky for us Tuesdays are Dim Sum all day and the selection was excellent. We had a plate of traditional Siu Mai and one of Kam Lu Wantán, crispy shrimp-pork dumplings, as appetizers. I had the Concolón with perfectly cooked (in a black skillet) crispy fried rice, pork belly, egg, lap chong sausage, shiitake mushroom, bok choy, rocoto. Mixed up tableside. My 15 year old grandson had the Lomo Saltado beef filet, tomato, soy sauce, aji amarillo peppers, potato, onions. Delicious. Fantastic drink menu - I had a Pisco Sour and a 5-Spice Old Fashioned - the selection of liquors is extraordinary. My grandson had Sprite (Mexican) with real cane sugar. We skipped desert in order to make it to our tour. I highly recommend China Chilcano!

We chose “Lunch in Lima”, the 28$ pre fix course. Dancing Yucca and Domburi Ji Song were very good. The photo is Suspiro Limeña, condensed milk based desert. It was delicious!

This was an interesting choice to make when we were deciding our dining options for our upcoming visit to Washington DC. The idea of a Peruvian, Asian and Spanish fusion was an interesting concept and we were eager to try this restaurant. Overall, we weren't particularly impressed We started with the chicken Dim Sum which we thought was "okay." This was our first time trying Dim Sum and perhaps the issue was that we were expecting more of a dough-like dumpling. This was a lot mushier and though it had an interesting taste, it didn't WOW us. Next up was the Tam Tam (noodles and spicy pork), which we thought was very good, but such a small portion for the price -- especially when sharing between two people. For our entree we picked the Peruvian Chicken, which at $44 promised to be a whole chicken that we thought would be plenty to share. When it came to the table, it turned out to be these tiny pieces of cut chicken. It was very surprising for us, at this price point, seeing that a whole roasted chicken could be bought for $5 and this was a quarter of the size with an inflated price. And while it came with a choice of three dipping sauces, none of them presented any flavor that was memorable. In fact, they were mostly bland. If I were to sum up the experience here I would say that it's very expensive for the small portions you get and none of what we ate, outside of perhaps the Tam Tam, had impressive flavor that you think would encompass the fusion this restaurant touts itself for. We would not return.

The fusion of Peruvian and Asian cuisine is very creative. Even things I would not have thought to put together in the same dish were excellent. Our waiter was solicitous and, when the wait time was a bit long, they gave us a free dessert. Not necessary at all but very nice. We will definitely be coming back!

Professional staff in a nice atmosphere, Peruvian-Asian fusion certainly is a good mingling of flavors. The food was well prepared and the desserts in particular were phenomenal. While the experience was quite good, I did dock points because it is on the pricier side and to be honest I would hope for just a bit more of a “wow” factor at this price point.
