Terrible experience. My friend and I were staying at the Marriott Hollins Hall, and went to Heathcliffe's Restaurant at 7.30pm on Saturday 18th February 2017 and politely asked for a table for two. The woman asked if we had booked, and when I said no, and told her we weren't advised by Reception at check-in that we needed to pre-book, she said she had nothing available until 9.00pm. I was baffled because my friend saw there were empty tables in the Restaurant, and if the said Restaurant was that busy, why were there 3 people behind the front desk standing around? So, I went on to the Hotel website, and immediately booked a table in Heathcliffes for 7.45pm (through Open Table). I then went back to the Restaurant, and showed the confirmation to the lady, but all she could say was that it shouldn't have let me book it. What would've happened if we'd been a non-resident, and booked through the app-would we have been turned away? I told her I would take matters further, so I went to inform Reception how unhappy I was, but they didn't want to know either. So, I have since had to email the Hotel Manager, but I have yet to receive a reply. I'm not sure what the problem was with the Heathcliffes staff, but we were both made to feel like outcasts. My friend said he'd never been treated like that at a Hotel Restaurant before. To be discriminated against and treated like this as a Hotel guest, and as a Marriotts Rewards member, Marriott credit card holder, and booking through an app such as Open Table is simply not acceptable. I am livid and Sadly my stay was ruined, because of this terrible experience.

The food was well cooked and innovative. We had pork belly and chicken liver pate to start. Both were very flavoursome but in the case of the pate, there was only one very small slice of toasted brioche, cut in half to accompany it. More came on request. The main courses were lamb and pork fillet with black pudding and winter coleslaw. They were lovely but it was disappointing the pork dish did not come with vegetables which had to be ordered separately at a cost of £3.50 per portion.There seems to be an inconsistency here as some dishes do come with vegetables. The starters and desserts were around £6.50 each. This may explain why so few locals were in and the clientele comprised tourists on a special, all inclusive package. We looked upstairs at casual dining in the gym area and found that to be expensive also and not conducive. Lovely food but at a price most locals cannot afford.

My partner ordered the soft crab noodle salad for starter, it wasn't soft crab as we know it and no noodles on the plate, for main I ordered steak cooked to medium and got a very well done steak, we both had the hand cooked chips which were in the cusp of being burnt, service was good just let down by the food

Attentive but unobtrusive service with good quality food and reasonable wine list. Be aware that 12.5% service charge is automatically added to the bill and the staff do receive it! I recommend the scallops as a starter and the steak for a main course- The strawberry dessert provided a nice finish to my meal. Also I liked the fact that we weren't hurried which gave us time to talk and relax.

WE STAYED FOR TWO NIGHTS TO CELEBRATE OUR 45TH WEDDING ANNIVERSARY AND WERE NOT DISAPPOINTED. WE TOOK DINNER IN THE RESTAURANT ON BOTH EVENINGS AND THE FOOD WAS ABSOLUTELY THE BEST! WE ARE GOLD FOR LIFE MARRIOTT REWARDS MEMBERS AND HAVE EATEN IN MARRIOTTS ALL AROUND THE WORLD. THIS RESTAURANT IS UP WITH THE BEST. THE BELLY PORK WAS BETTER THAN ONES I HAVE EATEN IN MICHELIN STARRED RESTAURANTS. YOU HAVE AN EXCELLENT CHEF MANY THANKS AND HOPE TO RETURN SOON GRAHAM AND GLENDA

We dined at Heathcliff's the night before my wedding.The food was delicious! I was particularly impressed by the gluten free options and the care taken by the staff to ensure I had a lovely meal.The staff were really lovely to my 7 year old daughter too.I will definitely be returning.

Loved the starter (the goat cheese panacotta) and the cheesecake. The special of the day, the duck was a bit to tough. My barley mushroom risotto was tasty but nothing memorable. It's worth for the ambiance alone, pretty relaxing place to have a weekend dinner / lunch. It's also family friendly, so you can take your kids too.

Waiting staff very good . Limited menu and steaks are their speciality . Therefore surprised that both our rib eyes looked more like thick sirloins and neither was cooked as ordered. Both overcooked and rather lacking in flavour which was disappointing given the price of £24 each
