About this restaurant

  • Good for special occasions
  • Charming
  • Neighborhood gem
Café Sbisa, established in 1899 and the third oldest fine-dining establishment in the French Quarter, is proud to re-open under the direction of a new team to once again offer the highest quality French-Creole cuisine in a welcoming, historical setting that both locals and tourists will appreciate. Spearheading the new Café Sbisa are Mr. Craig Napoli, who successfully ran the notable restaurant from 1992 - 2005 when Hurricane Katrina devastated the city, and Chef Alfred Singleton, who met Craig when he started working for him at the former Café Sbisa as a prep cook.

Now, the unique venue will once again open its doors to serve classic local fare like Turtle Soup, Louisiana Blue Crab Cakes and BBQ Shrimp using the freshest, locally-sourced seafood and produce. While many restaurants tout “fresh and local”, Sbisa means it, as the Napoli family owns their own seafood dock and distribution business in Hopedale, Louisiana.

We had a wonderful Easter Brunch at Cafe Sbisa and the service was top notch. Our champagne and water glass was never empty. We sat upstairs where the band playing wasn't so loud. It was a very pleasant experience!

Was taken to a table upstairs without asking if stairs are a problem( they are.) Sat us tight by the only other table with diners. When asked id we could move we were told the other tables were reserved. Host was rude and scruffy looking. Shrimp remolaude was terrible. Shrimp were small and chewey and eggplant was bland and undercooked. Veal was okay but too much garlic with watery sauce. Bread pudding was really good. Have gone here for years but wont be back.

Good food, server was funny, thought there would be live music on a Friday night but sadly not the case.

We took advantage of their Sunday brunch and had a superb experience. We enjoyed listening to some great dinner music provided by a four-person live band while dining over generous portions of our entrees. The food was top notch with it being representative of what you would expect from an authentic New Orleans restaurant. I highly recommend Sbisa`s Cafe.

This was, without a doubt, one of the most disappointing dining experiences we've had at a finer restaurant. We were really looking forward to a special evening out during our trip, and while the atmosphere was beautiful, the tables felt a bit too close together. The food was decent, but nothing truly stood out. The shrimp and grits were fine, though the shrimp were overcooked. The turtle soup was enjoyable and a fun dish to try, while the court bouillon was a bit too large for one person and, again, just nothing special. What really took away from the experience, though, was the service. As this was meant to be a memorable date night, we were excited, but unfortunately, our server didn't meet expectations. He seemed disorganized, taking our order twice, and when I ordered wine, he incorrectly told me I was wrong. While we understand it was later in the evening and nearing closing time, there were still other tables being served. To make matters worse, he even asked the table next to us if they wanted to order entrees after they had already finished their meal. Overall, it was a disappointing experience, and given the combination of the service and food, we won’t be returning.

Everything was great. The ribeye was surprisingly wonderful for a place that is primarily seafood/Louisiana oriented. Gumbo was delicious.

Absolutely delicious! Creole cooking at its best and the service is really wonderful, too. One of the few restaurants that still set with table linens, which is HUGE in my book Thank you! Can't wait to come back..........
