   We ordered 2 cheeseburgers but kitchen was out of burgers at 6:30. Ordered fish and chips and the last burger. Nice portions. Food was good. No complaints except chips were unbelievably salty. It was an okay food experience. Very beautiful restaurant.

   Service was very slow. 50 minutes to places lunch order. Only one person having a starter of soup which took a further 20 minutes to arrive. We were a table of 6 and there was also a table of 4 in the restaurant so in my opinion, not busy. Food was luke warm when it did eventually arrive. We were so disappointed that we asked the waitress to remove the service charge from our bill.

   Le cadre est superbe. Les serveurs sont aimables et patients. Il n y a rien à dire sur la qualité des plats. Ils sont très bien préparés, présentés et la quantité est au rendez-vous.

   Cafe Royal has a classic pub feel with lots of character in the restaurant and bar areas. We enjoyed an early Saturday dinner before heading to another event. The menu listed great vegan options. Unfortunately the specific options I wanted (a main and a side) were not available when we were there. The padron peppers were a lovely starter. My partner enjoyed the sourdough, fish and chips, and a sticky toffee pudding. The wine and whisky lists were fantastic.

    This was the only bad experience I’ve had in Edinburgh. The place looks great, but that’s about it. The service was very slow, the food was very mediocre (not even any peas with the fish and chips for 20) , and the prices were far too high for what you get. They also don’t offer takeaway containers, so half my meal went to waste. I wouldn’t go back and feel that I have wasted my money.
