   Every dish was familiar and yet elevated. Pairings hit all the right notes. We found the tasting menu and pairing to be a good value and want to go back to explore the other dishes. Front of house professionals were knowledgeable and fun. Great food and vibe.

   I really wanted to like this place but then I met our server. From the moment we were placed at the furthest table in the back of the restaurant in the back room, I knew we were off to a terrible start. We had to wait 15 minutes to arrive at our underwhelming table in the back making it 9pm when we first hit our chairs and we were absolutely starved. I politely asked for the server to fire up some corn bread so we wouldn't faint only to be told NO, you must place your entire order all at once. Her tone was curt, unapologetic, and incredibly unwelcoming. The only highlights of the meal were the mushrooms in the most divine bacon dip and the asparagus. Funny, that at a soul food restaurant the best dishes were vegetarian. The chicken liver was inedible and the shrimp was tepid and overly sauced. It felt like we had to do the heavy lifting in kissing up to our waitress just to have a somewhat pleasant experience. Overall, a pretty disappointing (and expensive) evening. If you want a real meal filled with soul in a warm environment with the most divine service, I highly recommend you head over to Mago. You won't regret it.

   i’ve been to a lot of well rated restaurants but sadly i’m not sure why this. one got accolades. the restaurant has a great vibe & the front of the house staff was really nice. drinks & the appetizer got to us in a timely manner. however, the entrees took 45mins to get to us and no one check to see if we needed anything. when the food arrived we killing said we were wondering where it was. well the waitress didn’t like that at all & rudely put our food on the table say “well we had to cook it. from scratch” and left. the food wasn’t great, they didn’t have pepper and their hot sauce was super bland. for context i’m from the south, i know good southern food. we had to flag down someone to get the check. charged us for the sparkling water they were pout into glass bottles like the still water. now i don’t mind paying for sparkling water but wasn’t told there was an additional charge for it nor was it any fancy sparkling water. there’s a mandatory 20% gratuity they definitely didn’t earn.

   Every items we ordered was excellent. Cod, stew, and chicken were the supper items we ordered.

   Incredible. Every bite was 10/10. Burdell is a special place. A vibe. If you're looking to sit down for a rushed dinner where wait staff comes to check on you every 5 minutes (very annoying, imo), this is not that place. Burdell is warm and inviting, like your grandma's house. Sit, relax, enjoy the mood lighting and the impeccable play list, put your phone away and lean into connection with good conversation in between delicious, well-balanced and creative courses absolutely bursting with flavor. Hats off to Chef Geoff and the Burdell team. Can't wait to come back.

   Burdell was recently named the 2024 Food & Wine Restaurant of the Year, and it is well-earned. The focus on traditional soul foot and an incredible 70s ambiance and decor couple for a relaxed, homey, but sophisticated dining experience. The chef, Geoff Davis, quietly delivers a majority of the dishes himself. I had a great experience at Burdell and highly recommend it!

   One of the best meals we’ve ever had! It was easy to get a reservation at a time we wanted and we were seated early when we arrived. The space is beautiful and service was great. We highly recommend the Family Dinner.

    This was our first time at Burdell. Our son recommended it, and I read the SF Chronicle piece. I didn’t know what to expect, but my husband and I were so delighted with this restaurant. The flavors! Everything we ate—the prawns, asparagus, lamb, chard and spinach, cornbread—was delicious. We will be back!
