The term “Blind Tiger” was coined in the late 1800’s to describe the illicit drinking and gambling establishments opening their doors as temperance legislation swept across the country. The first “Blind Tigers” in South Carolina sprung up in the Holy City in 1893 as a defiant rebuttal to the “Dispensary” laws mandated by the infamous Governor Ben “Pitchfork” Tillman.
Local lore suggests Broad Street was home to many houses of “ill repute” throughout the years. In 1992, ninety-nine years after the first “Blind Tigers” appeared, the “Blind Tiger Pub” opened in its current location, paying homage to a historic tradition.
Despite changing hands several times throughout the years, the Blind Tiger Pub has always remained a fixture of Charleston society. In 2016, after painstaking restoration, the “Blind Tiger Pub” was reborn. Striving to continue to honor the legacy of its previous caretakers, we invite you to join us in celebrating this Charleston institution.

Great food, good drinks, okay service. Wish we would have known it was happy hour before we got our check. Place looks cute, music is cool, Apparently they have the best patio in Charleston but they don’t offer it unless you ask. We were there for my wife’s birthday and they didn’t make any effort to make it special. Overall I would def go back for the food and drinks but manage my expectations on service.

Good food. Good drinks. Service was okay. We made a reservation and then were placed at a table next to the bathroom...so we ended up moving to the bar which was much better service and ambiance. The charcuterie board was delicious and I loved the cocktails.

Consistent and comfortable. The Blind Tiger is the best! But, do not tell every joker from Ohio that it is good! It is a local favorite and we expect a home town feel.

Wow! Avocado toast with pickled shrimp, crispy Brussels sprouts, hanger steak frittes (truffle fries) and Boyrbon bread pudding. Absolutely fabulous! Great cocktails, and truly excellent service! One of my favorites, and very reasonable prices!!!
