About this restaurant

  • Good for special occasions
  • Neighborhood gem
  • Charming
Bida Manda is a set of Sanskrit ceremonial terms for father and mother. We named our restaurant to honor our parents in Laos, who passed down their love of food and the belief in its power to bring people together.

Lao cuisine, shaped by the lush landscape, a spirit of generosity, and a French colonial past, is deeply connected to nature and memory. Our menu is inspired by our family’s recipes—an extension of home and a love letter to our parents.

A few notes for your visit: Reservations are highly recommended, but our bar is first come, first served. We offer a 15-minute grace period—please call if you're running late, and we'll do our best to accommodate you.

Thank you for being here. We can’t wait to welcome you.

We dined here for lunch on the weekend -- the lunch menu is more limited than the dinner menu. I dined here several years ago, and everything we ordered was great. On this visit, the food was not stellar -- the papaya salad was too heavy on the garlic and fish sauce, and most of the options were carb heavy (rice or noodles). Food quality seems to have gone downhill. Service was solid. Be aware -- parking options on a Sunday afternoon were in the paid surface lot ($28 flat daily fee due to "special event" which may have been a little festival in nearby park) or metered parallel parking if you are lucky.

It was my first (but certainly not my last) time dining at Bida Manda. My friends and I ordered the lettuce wraps, papaya salad (one with trout, mine was with duck) & the basil stir fry. All of our meals were excellent! Everything was well flavored and fresh We also shared the purple mango rice dessert. I was uncertain about enjoying a rice-based dessert but it was so yummy! I highly recommend. Enjoy your meal!

This was a date night for my wife and me. It was great. Started with veggie spring rolls. Best I have had. We got 3 entrees to share. The coconut cury chicken was amazing...pad lao...amazing. We did not care for the pad tai. There was something tart in it. It did not have the creamy peanutty flavor we were expecting. It was good; just not what i was wanting. We would we go back? YES!

Read good things about the place but the restaurant didn’t meet expectations. Food was too salty and a bit bland. I will likely never eat there again. Overall experience underwhelming.

Went last night with a friend and the space is lovely. Our server Holly was amazing. She was patient, knowledgeable, and went out of her way to make it a special meal. The small plates were killer (lettuce wraps & lemongrass sausage) and we both loved the Spicy Khiew cocktails. I could have the lettuce wrap alone for a meal. We split two generously portioned entrées. The pad thai was just ok, the tofu texture was weirdly like a reheated frozen gnocchi, but the juicy shrimp served in it were excellent. My only disappointment was the pork belly soup. The kitchen (kindly) presented it with two side bowls so we could share it. But I don't think there were any julienned veg or egg but just lots of sauce and noodles and then the pork belly. The pork belly itself was crispy but wasn't fatty or flavorful. It was more like a lightly dredged & crisped lean pork loin that was made early and reheated. The soup base felt more like a southern style ground pork gravy meets Tom Kha Kai than a broth-based soup and didn't have that much flavor either. I was surprised. I should have ordered the papaya salad which looked great. I will definitely be back to try new things.
