   Food is OK. The waiting time is too long. My reservation is 6:30 pm, however the chef came at 7:15 pm. We finish dinner at 8:30. It is a long dinner time. At the end the billing is wrong and cost additional time.

   Same Benihana as others. Service was good and good was the same. Great place for families to celebrate special occasions.

   I 've enjoyed every previous meal at the Burlingame location over the years, and I've been excited about the new one coming to San Mateo, a little closer to home. They did an amazing job transforning the former Red Robin location, and the food and service were top notch as expected.

   This is the 50th anniversary of the first time we went to Benihana! Still not tired of the show as you eat your dinner. Of course, we have a new generation of artist, just playing their skills. Gone all of the old Japanese wizards and replaced by a younger generation. our chef is two months into his journey and still has all his fingers. Maybe we will see him in another few years and see how he’s improved his skills.  Food is still the same taste, and of course the prices have kept pace with the times.

   We had the traditional 5 course menu, filet mignon and Yakima with chicken. We understand that it just recently opened but there were not enough servers. Ours went on lunch during our lunch and no one took his place. The chef did his bit what they're trained to do, like clinking the spatulas and the standard onion volcano. The filet mignon was dry and overcooked same with eh NY steak at the seat next to me. We told the manager and he told the chef to go ahead and make us a new order and make sure that it is medium well. We appreciate the attention to our request and to make our experience a better one.

   My husband and I had a nice lunch at this new Benihana restaurant. We had eaten at several other ones and were very excited when they opened this new one. I was extremely happy to not have to wait the typical 45 minutes we usually have to wait even with a reservation. We had an early reservation (11:30) though. However when we left (12:50) there were swarms of people waiting. Dixon was our chef and he did good. He opened with the standard fork and spatula toss and dropped them a few times (as well as the shrimp tail toss) however he was trying his best and was pleasant. He cooked our food the way we asked and that was more important. Azad was our server and he was excellent. He was very polite and attentive to our every need. I especially enjoyed Roger who stopped by to see how our experience was. It was a nice touch and showed the management cared.

   The average main dinner entree is $40. I’d be fine with it if the food was high quality and delicious, but it wasn’t. Majority of the price must be for the ambiance and experience, which is high energy. I wish Benihana the best but the food is definitely overpriced. If you’re looking to treat your family to a once in a while special dinner, there’s definitely better value somewhere else.

    I don’t know, but I feel that the system that they have in terms of how they space out and distribute the items in those six or five course meals just doesn’t work. You get your rice first and by the time they give you the vegetables and your meat or seafood, the rice is super cold… so you have to make a choice about whether to eat your rice without veggies or protein… or eat your meat and vegetables without any rice. Makes zero sense to me. For the price, it’s totally not worth it. It’s also a very noisy place.
