   The restaurant is closed. We arrived at the location to find it permanently closed. No advanced notice from Open table. In fact we received a email reminder.. Not good

   THIS RESTAURANT DOESN'T EXISIT ANYMORE IN MID-TOWN, DESPITE OPENTABLE STILL TAKING RESERVATIONS FOR THIS LOCATION. The Tribeca location is still in operation. Showed up for a 6pm pre-theatre meal only to find an abandoned storefront with a broken glass front door. THANKS OPEN TABLE! (Will I still get my 100 dining points?)

   Food was fine; service was awful. Four of us arrived a little before 9pm on a Thursday night. The restaurant was nearly empty, but we weren't worried because it was late for pre-theater and early for after theater. Despite having only three or four tables to serve, the waiters seemed incapable of getting anything right. One entree came out much later than the others and the service was generally bumbling. The meals -- traditional Indian fare -- were thankfully just fine.

   Everything was OK. Food was abundant, authentic, and a bit spicier than I would have preferred. The place is nice, but it was very noisy and it was hard to hear my companions have any kids of discussion with me or between themselves.

   I've been to many Indian restaurants -- most are quite different, depending on the part of India that the restaurant replicates. I tried many dishes at Benares, after seeing very good reviews on the usual sites. I was most disappointed, to say the least. The lamb chops tasted as if they were cooked in a microwave, and the Mulligatawny soup, even though it can be prepared many different ways, was not like anything I had ever had before. No dish was worth ordering again, and the four of us had tried many different ones. Not one glass of water or iced tea was refilled without have to ask for it, and we would usually have to wait 3-5 minutes for someone to come by so we could make the request. Although the pricing was reasonable, this restaurant is now off my list. New York has too many other good places to go.

    Amazing food with some unusual options! We got a South Indian curry we'd never heard of. Everything was spiced and delicious!
