About this restaurant

  • Romantic
  • Good for special occasions
  • Lively
Gin was the predominant drink in the USA during the prohibition-era 1920's and many variations were created. "Bathtub gin" was developed in response to the poor-quality of alcohol that was available at the time; because the 18th amendment specifically prohibited the sale or manufacture of distilled alcohol, producers of gin were forced to use denatured alcohol. By mixing it with other flavorings, such as juniper berries, and allowing the mixture to steep in a tub for several hours or even days, the gin became more drinkable. Producers of "bathtub gin" encouraged bartenders at hidden bars to create their own recipes for cocktails.

Still today, straight gin is not usually served on its own, since it tends to be extremely dry. Gin is often mixed with tonic water, vermouth or fruit juices to make it more palatable.
Upholding tradition, we mix our gin and other spirits with the finest and freshest fruits, juices, syrups and infusions in cocktails inspired by original recipes.

Was looking forward to the kitchshy atmosphere but both the drinks and the food were phenomenal. It is a very small space but they do take reservations and we had a fabulous time. I highly recommend it!

Bathtub Gin is one of my favorite places to take people who are visiting NYC and want an experience! I went for the burlesque show on Tuesday night, which was very fun. They have amazing cocktails. Highly, highly recommend.

The atmosphere and cocktails at BathTub Gin were both great, however, I was very disappointed by the service. Our party had a reservation for 9:45pm but we did not sit down at our table until 10:25pm because we were waiting for service. First, we waited in a line outside the venue while the bouncer argued with the party in front of us because they were late for their reservation. Then, we waited inside the venue for an additional 15 minutes just waiting to be acknowledged by the hostess. All in all, when we sat down to the table, it was 10:25. At that point, the hostess informed us that they had another party coming and need our table at 11:00pm and so they would try to find us a another table to move to at that time. The staff was unable to find another table for us, so we only had the table from 10:25 until 11pm, even though we had a reservation and complained to management. The cocktails were delicious but overall, this was a very disappointing experience. I would not go back.

Seating was terrible. They crammed us in on a bench shoulder to shoulder with other people. Left before ordering our first drink.

Went for my birthday celebration in New York and since I am now 64 years old was flattered to be asked for ID! The venue came recommended from a few people. There is a limited menu but would highly recommend the Kobe Beef on Toast. Extensive gin based cocktail menu, my favourite was The corset

Loved this place! The speakeasy setting is fun to introduce to people, the service is good and our waitress knew all the cocktails and made great recommendations fir our group of four. We didn't try any food but we all enjoyed our gin cocktails. Personally I think the cocktails are too busy- there are so many ingredients, it's hard to know what the flavor profile is without asking. They're expensive too, but they're still enjoyable - would go back.
