The food and atmosphere are great. The service was below expectations. We were the only customers in the facility. Reservations were at 11:45am for 13. Table was not set and server had not checked OpenTable to see if they had any reservations coming in. We were sat at 11:50. Again, we were the only customers there. Lunch took over an hour before served. Reservations were at 11:45, we didn't get our food until after 1pm. Waitress was not very attentive. Food was good and fair but a bit more moderately priced.

I went on 1/18/20 around 5:36pm. First, let's talk parking. There is very little of it. This place in downtown. So carpool and use a public lot. Expect to walk a block or two. The restaurant is on the 3rd story of a building that houses a private gymnasium and a small conference center. You do not need to be a member of either to get to Ax Billy's. The place is wheel chair accessible (with the elevator), and stairs are available too. Ax Billy's has 3 areas for seating; a dining restaurant, and bar with tables, and an outside patio. The dining area provides good space, good lighting, and a cosmopolitan feel. The sports bar is the same except for the addition of the bar, a few tall tables, some lounge tables, a nice bar, and a lot of TV's. The patio area looked WET! Lighting is good and the place is kept clean. I ate in the bar at a lounge table. The TV's played a variety of sports, but the volume is kept off. Conversation wont be a problem. The place is hardwood so expect sound to carry. The dining area has a Southern exposure so It's warm. The Patio and Bar have Western exposures. So they have good afternoon sun & warmth. The staff was courteous and personable. The menu's are the same no matter where you sit. There are quite a few menus. One menu is devoted to wine. Another is devoted to signature cocktails. The others are devoted to foods. You really have an unusual variety here. You can get typical pub fare like Pizza, buffalo wings, etc. But you can also get some really nice fine dining entrees. Or you can order something in between. You don't usually see a selection like that. I had the Wygu steak. It was good. Japanese A5 is way better! I also had a G&T that was very well made. The bar does not skimp on booze. Leave the kids at home with a sitter.

We enjoyed a delicious dinner at Ax Billy Grill celebrating our son's graduation from U of O. The service was excellent. The ambiance was upscale but relaxed. It was a super busy weekend, but it was quiet enough at our table that we could easily visit. The food was fantastic. Try the brussel sprouts & fig bruschetta!! Our table tried nearly all the entrees and everything was amazing! Dessert was yummy too! Everything was perfect!

We brought friends and we had the restaurant to ourselves, so it was quiet and we had sufficient service. On Wednesday the pizzas were half price and they were all quite good.

(Skimping on the booze is a major turn-off for me.) I also had a glass of white wine with dinner. The place was not all that busy. I'm kinda surprised. I guess not too many people know about the place.

I contemplated rating this with two stars because the chicken sandwich and steak strip appetizers were good. However, to start with, 2/3 of the menu was unavailable due to lack of seafood (blamed on recent snow and not being able to get deliveries) when the supplier was literally 6 blocks away and roads clear for a few days. Additionally, the management made no effort to modify the menu to substitute. This left burgers, sandwiches, pizza, and nachos as entree choices in what would be a nicer restaurant. My daughter and I ordered appetizers and it was 20 minutes before our server returned (with the appetizer, at which time she took our order.) She was friendly and apologetic, though since there were only three tables seated in the entire restaurant/bar and three other employees on the floor it really made no sense for the delay in ordering. My daughter ended up settling for chicken nachos with a side of avocado (which the server stated not sure if they had either.) We were going to a show and had allowed what we thought was sufficient time to make it. As a result of the extended time it took for the orders to be served, we had to request to-go boxes for the likelihood that we could not eat fast enough. As I previously stated, my sandwich tasted good but the nachos arrived, not only without avocado and an explanation, but without chicken as well. Simply a pile of chips with cheese melted on them and an abundance of jalapeños and a smattering of tomato. The bell peppers that were included and requested on the side were non-existent as well. While the server did not charge for the nachos when pointed out, there was basically just another excuse for delivery given. Basically I paid quite a bit for a sandwich and a daughter that did not have a meal. What a disappointment.

The setting is very nice. The beet appetizer and calamari were excellent. It then took 30+ minutes or more for our dinner to arrive. All of them were mediocre, and for the price, I would expect excellent. Not sure I will go back.
