Del equipo editorial de OpenTable: Chef and co-owner Johnny Courtney cooked at the iconic Canlis for four years before opening this restaurant, which has been dubbed one of the hottest in the country by Eater, Esquire, and the New York Times. In a historic Craftsman home painted moss green, Courtney and his team feature local farmers and fishermen in rustic dishes like rosette cookies with sweet onion jam, Dungeness crab on pain de mie, and glazed maitake mushrooms.     The main thing I’m taking away was the desserts are nowhere near up to the quality of the appetizers in main courses The Mandarin sesame mess was almost inedible - the chocolate sorbet had some kind of a bitter medicinal quality which didn’t help The rest of the food was quite delicious although I think I would’ve enjoyed a larger portion of almost everything

    I was excited to try this buzzy new hotspot. The staff were attentive if not warm, which is more than you get most places in Seattle. The food had the potential to be amazing but was unfortunately executed poorly. My first course, the rosette, was delicious. I wished it had been warm but figured that was a stylistic choice. When my second course came out also at room temperature, I started to think it was a quality control issue. My final course was halibut. It was at least warm, but was overcooked to the point of being reminiscent of cotton balls, and served in a chipped bowl. The cocktail menu had high points, but my $25 twist on a Negroni would have gone down more smoothly if the food had been on point. Atoma has a lot of potential and I hope they put in the extra work required to live up to the buzz!
